13:50 Sandown – Jupiter Du Gite

Etalon showed promise of being half-decent last year, but he missed Cheltenham to go to Aintree, where he disappointed. He’s dropped to a half-decent mark now and I might have made him my selection if he were a big price, which he isn’t. JUPITER DU GITE is my pick.

He’s got plenty of ability but is headstrong. He was never going to stay the three miles last time at Sandown, but the 2m 4f will be up his street now. Basically, you have to get him into a race he can win, where he is good enough to outclass his rivals and then let him loose. He gets that chance now.

14:25 Sandown – Della Casa Lunga

DELLA CASA LUNGA is the one to beat. She ran very well last time at Kempton. She’s well suited to going right-handed and is best being let loose from the front.

Jockey Richard Patrick gets a good tune out of her and she’s the pick of these at the weights, having won a handicap last time out off a mark of 134. That gives her the edge over the likes of Georgi Girl.

The conditions should be firmly in her favour and she sets a pretty solid standard. She’s hard to oppose.

14:40 Wincanton – Nocte Volatus

NOCTE VOLATUS has an obvious chance, racing off a mark of 129, the same mark off which he was second to Gemirande at Ascot last time out. Trainer Tom Lacey is beginning to find form and Nocte Volatus has been running well all season.

You have to be obtuse to argue against him.

15:00 Sandown – Sam Brown

This is a competitive race. The 10lbs that Chad Bament claims off SAM BROWN could be crucial. Given the company he’s kept over the years and how well he can occasionally run in graded chases, he finds himself high in the weights.

He knows where the winning line is and will have Chad as a passenger and just go and do his own thing. He’s effectively running off a mark of 143, which gives him a big chance. This race should bring out the best in him.

15:15 Wincaton – Latin Verse

LATIN VERSE might be capable of winning this. That handicapper has given him a chance and despite finishing sixth at Taunton last time out, he wasn’t beaten far.

He improved on heavy ground last year and won a similar race at Ludlow on his handicap debut. The one time he had soft ground this season was at Huntington in November and ran well well to claim second place.

He’s off the same mark again and with Harry Cobden in the saddle we should see a better performance from Latin Verse who should go very close.

15:35 Sandown – Jour D’Evasion

JOUR D’EVASION is one who I have put up in the past. Unfortunately, he unseated at the first hurdle at Ascot but then ran a cracker just a week later when he was second to Ooh Betty. He stays a little further than two miles and seems to be going from strength to strength.

Trainer Henry Daly is in good form and I have no desire to desert a winning team.
