11:45 – Princess Pw
Solid-looking PRINCESS PW gets the vote, ahead of Solar Pass who ran well over C&D last time. Princess Mia is open to improvement.
12:15 – Seconds Count
The shortlist is headed by the interesting newcomers SECONDS COUNT and War And Love in that provisional order of preference. Flexibility can be applied depending on the market signals. Mrs Dowley and Jiff’s Army bring the best form, while Mullwarchar is open to improvement.
12:45 – Gogo Yubari (NAP)
Being a nicely handicapped contender who has an excellent record at this course, GOGO YUBARI (nap) is preferred. Last-time winners Harb (second choice) and Rainyniteingeorgia are obvious dangers, while Diamond Dreamer is also in the mix. Nogo’s Dream continues to test the patience of saints.
13:15 – Hebridean Nomad
A few of these are of interest but the one with most potential is HEBRIDEAN NOMAD, who was returning from a long absence when a very encouraging fourth over 1m2f here on last month’s handicap debut. Crystal Mariner ran well in defeat at Kempton recently and is feared most, while Therapist and Knockbrex were placed over 1m2f when last in action and may both be suited by this return to 1m4f.
13:45 – Havana Sky
The most obvious answer is thriving 4yo HAVANA SKY, who ended 2024 with five wins in a row over 6f and is probably still ahead of the handicapper. There is a slightly query regarding today’s return to 7f but, nevertheless, he ought to be hard to beat. Lord Rapscallion looked a shade unlucky not to win off today’s mark two starts ago and is second choice, while dual C&D winner Tadreeb is very well handicapped and may have been refreshed by a change of stable.
14:15 – Overnight Oats
Most of these have something to prove but OVERNIGHT OATS won four in a row on AW in November/December including at this track. His winning streak came to an end at Wolverhampton on Boxing Day but things didn’t go his way and he remains well treated on his old form. The biggest threat to the selection could come from Kondratiev Wave, who also won four times last year and was in good form before a rare blip here 12 days ago.
14:45 – Joycean Way
Handicap debutant JOYCEAN WAY is open to further progress and looks an interesting contender on his belated return to action, particularly if the market speaks positively. Silver Nightfall (second choice) has a good chance on recent form, while Detroit Lion and Stipulation may do better still.
15:15 – Secret Force
The form standard is ordinary but SECRET FORCE is one runner who could take a big step forward, especially granted a cleaner break. Heed the market signals with regard to newcomers Queen Of Mercia, Boatswain and Broker Charlie who have respectable credentials and represent major stables.
15:45 – Arch Legend
Being unexposed over 2m, ARCH LEGEND could well build on his C&D effort and go one better. Sir Joseph Swan, who ties in with the selection, is second choice ahead of consistent Gold Aura who finally hit the target five days ago. Several others also have clear possibilities and this is quite open.
