11:14 – Enpassant
ENPASSANT isn’t one for maximum faith, as he has a poor strike rate and tends to cause himself problems by breaking slowly. However, he’s been running respectably lately and is now 2 lb lower in the weights than when he achieved his sole success at Leicester in June.
This also looks like a slightly less competitive handicap than Enpassant tackled at Wolverhampton last time, so he could be worth chancing.
King David is an obvious danger, having been only narrowly denied at Southwell last time.
11:44 – Master Technician
This is a weak novice and looks like a good opportunity for MASTER TECHNICIAN to resume winning ways.
Master Technician was a decisive winner of a seven-furlong maiden at Musselburgh on his penultimate start but was a shade disappointing when only fourth on his handicap debut over a mile at Kempton last time.
He could not sustain his effort there, so dropping back in trip could prove a good move, and he looks up to defying a penalty back in novice company.
12:14 – This Farh
THIS FARH produced a promising first effort when runner-up at Brighton in August, but he failed to build on that when he was fifth at Thirsk only a week later.
He possibly found the race coming too soon at Thirsk, so he is worth another chance, having been given plenty of time.
His trainer, David Loughnane’s runners, are doing better now than when This Farh was last seen, which is another positive for his chances.
12:44 – Early Release
EARLY RELEASE attracted support on his first start for David Evans (previously with George Scott) at Southwell 11 days ago, and he produced an improved performance to get off the mark.
Early Release, who was upped to six furlongs for the first time, impressed with how he travelled, led on the bridle two furlongs out and always seemed to be holding on, ultimately scoring by a neck.
He’s fancied to defy a 4 lb rise in the weights.
13:14 – Existent
EXISTENT is on a long losing run that comprises 31 starts and stretches back to 2022, but he ran well when a close-up third at Chelmsford on his penultimate start and then went even closer at Wolverhampton last time, missing out by just a head.
Existent is on a career-low mark and looks good enough to take advantage and snap his losing sequence.
13:44 – Royal Champion
ROYAL CHAMPION failed to score in three starts for Anthony and Sam Freedman in Australia. But he showed very smart form for Roger Varian in 2023, notably winning the listed Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot.
That form is the best on offer, placing him 9 lb clear on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings, and he is taken to make a winning start for Karl Burke.
14:14 – Monsieur Beaulieu
MONSIEUR BEAULIEU produced a career-best effort when a wide-margin winner over this course and distance on his penultimate start.
He wasn’t far below that level when runner-up under a 5 lb penalty at Southwell nine days later.
Monsieur Beaulieu remains fairly treated off 2 lb higher here and is clearly suited by this course and distance, so he looks set to give another good account.
14:47 – Rebel Empire
REBEL EMPIRE showed much improvement when fitted with a tongue tie at Southwell on his penultimate start, and he emphatically got off the mark.
He had to settle for second off this 9 lb higher mark back at the same venue on Sunday, but that was still a creditable effort, and he can go well again.
15:22 – Paradoxical
PARADOXICAL took advantage of a much-reduced mark at Wolverhampton on his penultimate start, and he arguably posted a better effort in defeat under a penalty when runner-up over the same course and distance on Boxing Day.
Paradoxical only just failed after keeping on well in the straight. He is effectively 3 lbs lower in the weights here, so he makes solid claims.
