The strength behind KAID DAUTHIE in the betting on his yard debut at Navan suggests he’d been giving the right signals at Closutton, but he was undone by a careless leap at the fifth flight when in front, so he’s taken to gain compensation, with confidence increased should the market speak in his favour again.
Gordon Elliott’s Sermandzarak made a promising start to his hurdle career at Punchestown and is second choice ahead of the other Willie Mullins runner Kalix Delabarriere.

An open handicap hurdle where a chance is taken on handicap newcomer LADY ROSE HACKETT for last year’s winning trainer and jockey combination of Henry de Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore. She has shown ability in three starts over hurdles so far and is just the type to progress further from a lowly opening mark.
His Nibbs is another who appeals as a likely improver in handicaps and also makes the shortlist along with the thriving Portarlington and the other de Bromhead runner Freddie Robdal.

QUAI DE BOURBON‘s sole defeat from four starts over hurdles last season came in the Martin Pipe at the Cheltenham Festival, a race in which he finished a very solid third. The five-year-old is armed with sky-high potential now tackling the larger obstacles, though, and, granted a clear round, he will prove hard to beat based on the ability he showed over timber.
Dee Capo, who was still firmly in contention when falling two out at Navan three weeks ago, is feared most ahead of the selection’s stablemates Captain Cody and Chapeau de Soleil.

HOME BY THE LEE was safely held in this race 12 months ago, but he landed the 2022 edition and looks the way to go on the back of his reappearance success in the Lismullen Hurdle at Navan where he proved too strong for Bob Olinger and six others.
The latter renews rivalry on 5lb better terms, but the jury remains out as to whether he stays this far, and a bigger threat may be posed by Asterion Forlonge, who was runner-up in this 12 months ago and was also second in a Punchestown Grade 1 in April.

FACT TO FILE wasted no time in announcing himself at chasing’s top table when lowering the colours of Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Galopin Des Champs in the John Durkan at Punchestown last month.
He won in grand style that day despite being relatively easy to back and can confirm himself the leading chaser around by again proving too strong for his stablemate in a thrilling Savills Chase, with the return to three miles sure to suit. Inothewayurthinkin and Conflated appeal as the pick of the rest in the battle for minor honours.

There are several with chances, but FORTUNEDEFORTUNATA can race off the same mark as when a very good fourth at Navan last time. She started a big price that day but fared best of those who were held up and she is worth chancing to build on that return to form.
Tranquil Sea heads the list of dangers on the back of his good Clonmel second, although a solid case can also be made for Binge Worthy, Golden Temple and Win Some Lose Some.

KOVANIS has joined top connections for a hefty sum (£330,000) after an easy point win, and he’s the obvious one to side with, having his first go under Rules representing a yard that won this race 12 months ago. Soir De Garde should improve on his debut and, in the unlikely event that Kilwaughter participates two days on from his winning debut, he’d be a live danger.
