16:30 King Of Narnia
There’s only Perfect Life’s promising debut to go on in terms of public form, and while that was a useful start, pedigree and the Gosdens’ record in this sphere point us towards a winning debut for KING OF NARNIA. Check the market for other clues, with Ray Gun, Vulcan Way, and Grey Phoenix all possessing positives on paper.
17:00 Hippocratic Oath
It is highly likely that this will rest squarely between the in-form pair Fernando and HIPPOCRATIC OATH. Brian Meehan’s charge was unable to complete the hat-trick when going down to a Godolphin runner at Kempton last week, but is officially 2lb well-in before his revised mark (73) comes into force. Still progressing, he should just about have the edge over his main market rival.
17:30 Never Let Go
There is little to go on here, but probably the best form on offer is that of NEVER LET GO, who was a decent sixth at Newmarket last month, and normal progress should see her go close. Mehmas Shy Angel should also have more to offer after finishing seventh at Kempton earlier this month and is second choice. The pick of the newcomers could be Warm Glow with the Fanshawe yard among the winners recently in 2yo races.
18:00 Kon Tiki
Now with John Ryan, Lightning Force sets the benchmark, but she could prove vulnerable off a six-month break with others, including Mother Mara and Mystery Of Love, potentially capable of better than they have shown to date. However, Jane Chapple-Hyam’s newcomer KON TIKI has an attractive pedigree and could be the way to go.
18:30 Split Elevens
A compressed handicap that has an open look to it. Profitman has largely been in good form and should again be a factor switching back to this surface, while the veteran Reputation is respected on the back of his Southwell success. However, the two to concentrate on look to be Rosenpur, who was a shade unlucky here last time, and SPLIT ELEVENS, to whom similar comments apply, and the latter’s winning form around here earns him the vote.
19:00 Paramount (NAP)
There should be plenty of pace on here with several vying for the lead. That should set the race up for PARRAMOUNT (NAP), who stayed on strongly to beat Optician by three and a quarter lengths last time over C&D. The latter should get closer this time (4lb better off), but it should not be enough for him to get his revenge. The main danger could be the front-running Cardano if his jockey gets his fractions right.
19:30 Radiant Beauty
Bass Player still has handicapping scope and he’s a key player with Rossa Ryan booked, while Bold Ribb, Equion, and Berkshire Phantom (second choice) also make some appeal. RADIANT BEAUTY has yet to shine in handicaps, but there have been mitigating factors, including trip and ground, and she could prove a different proposition back on the AW.
20:00 Eagle Day
The admirable Arcadian Nights can never be discounted around here, particularly after a return to form at the venue last time. He is feared, but his slight preference is for fellow course winner EAGLE DAY, who has a good record of backing up his wins and is taken to do so again after an emphatic success 11 days ago. Charmaine looks the most interesting of the remainder.
20:30 Bomb Squad
Bankrupt is likely to pop up at some point soon, and he needs a close market check for a stable that is one to note when the money is down. You Are Everything, Savalas, Twenty Boy, and May Remain all have something to recommend, but this may be fought out by Star Of Atlantis and BOMB SQUAD. The former looks as though she’ll appreciate the drop in trip, but Bomb Squad’s last two 6f runs have both been positive, and he’s handicapped to win.
