Supreme Novices’ winner SLADE STEEL was mastered by the Martin Pipe winner in a tactical battle on his chasing debut. He should go one better, at the main expense of Lecky Watson, the selected of four Willie Mullins-trained runners. Staffordshire Knot has an edge over Answer To Kayf, based on Fairyhouse running, but both horses are capable of getting in the mix.

13:10 Plumpton – Alien Storm (NAP – Racing and Football Outlook )

Dubrovnik Harry has steered clear of fences since his first attempt two years ago, but his hurdling ability is hugely respected. He could be the danger, but ALIEN STORM (nap) is back at the scene of both his wins and returning to further looks a good move. However, none of these are discounted.

14:52 Southwell – Easter Icon (NAP – Racing Post )

The vast majority have something to prove, but EASTER ICON (nap) is a glaring exception, and he can add to his win at Fontwell in August. The step back up in trip is a likely plus for lightly raced 5yo Danny’s Friend and he’s second choice. Kuma Beach is one to watch on handicap debut.

This may go the way of I SHUT THAT D’OR, who might well have followed up his C&D win at Wincanton, had he not kept jumping left. Mutual Respect edges Hidalgo Des Bordes for second preference.
