16:30 – My Turn Now (NAP)
Preference is for C&D winner MY TURN NOW (nap), who returned from wind surgery with a convincing win at Chelmsford and is still on a fair mark despite going back up 3lb. Suanni was runner-up behind the selection last month and he’s feared most ahead of Kyber Crystal, who is still unexposed on AW and was an eyecatching third at Southwell four weeks ago. The in-form 4yo Darkened Edge also enters the reckoning.
17:00 – Soldiers Star
Judged on bare form SOLDIERS STAR has the best chance, ahead of Well Enough. The shortlist is completed by likely improver Best Of All and interesting newcomer Deira Storm.
17:30 – Lovesick
With improvement likely, LOVESICK is taken to emulate her useful dam by scoring second time out. Mullwarchar, the pick of the newcomers, is second choice ahead of Kev who seems likely to take a step forward. Rogue Officer and Moby Quick look best of the remainder.
18:00 – Packetofbiscuits
It’s hard to rule out any of these. Misty Sky took another step forward when making all at Newmarket and she’s strongly respected for a yard that won this last year. Sex On Fire is unbeaten in two runs on AW, while The Hare Rail was an eyecatcher over 6f last time and Godolphin’s Beccali needs a close look in his first nursery. However, the vote goes to Sir Mark Prescott’s unexposed gelding PACKETOFBISCUITS, who rallied well to go close at Chelmsford last month and is open to more progress over this longer trip on his nursery debut.
18:30 – Virtual Hug
The return to 1m4f puts VIRTUAL HUG at the top of the list, ahead of Khangai who could reverse placings with the two runners he finished behind last week provided this race pans out better. Forge Valley Lad and 2022 winner Starfighter are attractively handicapped.
19:00 – Always Waving
Redhot Whisper is 0-8 but he’s recorded RPRs in the high 80s on several occasions and is a major player if he can run near his best at this new trip. Jack McNamara, who was sold for 87,000gns after his close second at the Curragh in October, is respected on his stable debut, but the vote goes to Andrew Balding’s well-bred filly ALWAYS WAVING. This second run has been a long time coming but she showed clear promise when runner-up at Kempton last November and has plenty of scope for progress on this big step up in trip.
19:30 – Plumette
Judged on her recent efforts, PLUMETTE looks particularly solid and seems set to record a sixth course success. Bossy Parker, who has a good chance provided the cheekpieces have a positive effect, is second choice ahead of Bungle Bay who is another well-treated C&D scorer. The maidens Al Shabab and Dazitoo also have possibilities in this scenario.
20:00 – Strategic Fortune
Being still attractively treated, STRATEGIC FORTUNE could well register a fourth C&D success. Come On John, who remains of interest at this level, is second choice ahead of Mhajim who has possibilities provided the cards drop right.
20:30 – Not Just Yet
This looks trappy but it might be worth siding with NOT JUST YET, who has been knocking on the door over C&D in two of his last four runs and is a big player if this sets up for his closing style. Yoshimi has won two of his last three starts and could pose a major threat if he copes with this drop back to 6f. Third choice is the the reliable Alafdhal, who should give it another good shot on his step back up in trip.
