11:42 Ginger Pointe

A first win over hurdles could be on the cards for GINGER POINTE, who rather caught the eye when staying on into fifth back in this sphere at Sedgefield where he travelled as well as anything else for much of the journey and wasn’t given a hard time late on; the handicapper has helpfully dropped him 2 lb for that run, too.

Glory Hights clearly gets on well with William Maggs and is an obvious danger having raised his game when getting off the mark at Carlisle. Course winner Penpal, who steps back up in trip, is third choice ahead of Paddy O’Mahler (cheekpieces first time) and the well-handicapped Coniston Clouds on his return to hurdling.

12:17 Tommys Law

Though possessing the build to suggest that he will come into his own once sent over fences, TOMMYS LAW is proving most consistent over hurdles and can make the most of what looks like an excellent opening. He was 2¾ lengths second to Lunar Chief in a novice at Kelso last time, outspeeded in the closing stages, but should find this stiffer finish in his favour.

Devon Skies also let down favourite backers last time, but the Sedgefield third is preferred to Empress Run – who filled that same position at Hexham when last seen – for forecast purposes.

12:47 Its All About You

If ITS ALL ABOUT YOU takes to hurdling at the first time of asking he may have a bit too much speed for Lucinda Russell’s Knomorediamonds. Jennie Candlish has done well with the same owner’s Skyjack Hijack who has progressed so well that he contests the Grade 2 at Cheltenham this afternoon, and It’s All About You – whose staying wins on the Flat in the summer makes him quite a classy recruit to this sphere – has looked a much-improved horse since the cheekpieces went on.

Susiesparkle, who showed aptitude when a distant third to Wise Eagle at Musselburgh on his hurdling debut, may prove best of the remainder in a race where it’s hard to be positive about the prospects of many.

13:22 Chemical Warfare

Having switched stables from Tjade Collier to David Pipe before the start of the season, CHEMICAL WARFARE has been most progressive this term and, having shaped as if still in good order at Wetherby last month, the seven-year-old can notch victory number six of the campaign at the expense of Nothin To Ask, who showed the benefit of his Chepstow run last time and the handicapper continues to relinquish his grip as he tries three miles for the first time over fences.

Course winner Carigeen Castle should come on for his recent pipe-opener at Bangor, while chasing-debutant Basford rounds off the shortlist. He is off a reduced mark and has cheekpieces on for this return to action.

Chemical Warfare Win or Each Way

13:57 Balranald

The Alison Hamilton-trained BALRANALD was unable to land the hat-trick last time out, but he still ran with credit, and he is taken to resume winning ways at a course where he has previously tasted victory this season. The main danger could be Blow A Fortune who looks unexposed with cheekpieces applied for her handicap debut.

Jet Patrol was in the process of running an encouraging race at Newcastle before falling at the last, and he’s interesting with Ryan Mania back in the plate for all he’s now failed to complete on two of his last three starts (once over fences). Kally des Bruyeres entered the history books when winning a Huntingdon maiden at 200/1 last month; time will tell if that was a fluke or whether this mark of 100 underestimates his achievements.

Balranald Win or Each Way

14:32 Ballynaheer

Top-weight BALLYNAHEER needs to shrug off a lesser effort at Hereford 32 days ago, but that form has been franked, and he was hampered at an early stage; each of his two previous chase efforts had contained definite promise, and he’s worth another chance to get back on the up.

Chase debutant Boolamore Classic – a runner-up in points before a so-so hurdling campaign – and the more experienced Watchoutitscookie are a couple of others to consider in a race where most have something to prove. Any market move for the unexposed Blue Plan would look significant given his lack of form over hurdles.

15:08 Bespoke Tailor

Not a strong-looking bumper, but BESPOKE TAILOR has been runner-up on both starts to date – not really improving from first to second starts – but this looks easier, and he’s worth a chance to open his account at the possible expense of stablemate Blakey Boy who was shuffled back at a key stage when third on debut at Hexham.

Gonnino and Fast Work are also considered having shaped with some promise on debut, while Little Roger, a half-brother to three winners, including the useful hurdler/very smart chaser Nuts Well, is probably the pick of the debutants.
