MAILLOT BLANC raced only once last season but, wearing a tongue tie for the first time, showed he retains most of his ability when third at Kelso last month, sticking to his task well without being able to land a blow.
The way Maillot Blanc saw things out over that extended two and a half miles suggests that he’s well worth a try over this longer trip and he should give a good account of himself off a fair mark. You Some Girl completed a hat-trick when successful over course and distance last week and is an obvious danger despite a 12lb hike in the weights.
13:15 Jet To Vegas
Irish point winner JET TO VEGAS made an encouraging start under Rules when runner-up in a Carlisle bumper in October, and he also shaped well when filling the same position on his hurdles debut back at Carlisle last month, pulling clear of the remainder.
He’s entitled to build on that promise, should have little trouble coping with this longer trip, and can get off the mark over hurdles. Kadjar des Mottes ran to a similar level as Jet To Vegas when third on his hurdling debut at Bangor last month and can chase the selection home.
13:45 No No Fizz
NO NO FIZZ failed to reward support when only fourth at Hereford on her stable debut for Fergal O’Brien, but she took a step forward to get off the mark at Lingfield last month, responding well to pressure down in trip to score by three and three-quarters lengths.
She doesn’t have too many miles on the clock and could yet do better for this yard, so a 6lb higher mark may not stop her following up, particularly as 5lb claimer Tom Broughton offsets most of that rise.
14:15 Stringtoyourbow
STRINGTOYOURBOW cashed in on a sliding mark when successful at Southwell last month, impressing with how boldly he jumped in front and winning with more in hand than the margin of two and three-quarter lengths would suggest as he was six lengths clear but was eased right down close home. He still looks well-treated following a 6lb rise in weights, and it could prove tough to peg back down on a trip here.
14:45 Prince of Perth
PRINCE OF PERTH shaped like a stayer in a bumper and maiden hurdle during the 2022/23 season, and that was also the case when fourth on his return from a long layoff at Hexham in October.
He again shaped as if he’d be suited by further when an encouraging fifth at Carlisle last month and it would be little surprise to see him take a step forward now tackling two and a half miles on his handicap debut. An opening mark of 100 could underestimate him, while Conner McCann takes off a handy 7lb.
15:15 Jony Max
JONY MAX took a step back in the right direction from a falling mark when runner-up at Wincanton in October, and he built on that to score at Warwick a few weeks later, getting the better of a lightly raced rival.
He had to settle for second under a penalty at Taunton last time but showed even better form in defeat, losing out by just a neck after sticking to his task well. He’s edged up 3 lb but remains on a handy mark based on his older form, and he looks like a big player. The application of cheekpieces for the first time could help sharpen him up.
