Jonbon is bidding to become the first horse since the legendary Kauto Star in 2006 to win back-to-back renewals of the Tingle Creek Chase.
He became Nicky Henderson’s third winner of the Tingle Creek in last year’s edition and the Seven Barrows handler is one of three trainers in Saturday’s 15:00 to have previously saddled a horse to glory in the Sandown Grade 1.
Henry de Bromhead sends Quilixios across the Irish Sea in a bid to follow up Sizing Europe’s 2011 success and Alan King is hoping 2022 scorer Edwardstone can roll back the years to emulate the likes of Master Minded, Sire De Grugy and Twist Magic in regaining the crown.
Tingle Creek Chase odds can be found on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise key historical trends from the last 10 renewals and a tip based off the big-race stats are below.
Tingle Creek Chase 2024 trends
AGE
- 10/10 were aged between six and nine
Edwardstone, the winner of the 2022 renewal, can be scrubbed from calculations as this trend suggests he is too old to be troubling the scoresheet.
RATING
- 10/10 were rated 158 or higher
Quilixios (155) is one of five horses that the handicapper thinks are not classy enough. JPR One (154), Master Chewy (154), Solness (153) and Unexpected Party (145) also fall short on official ratings.
GRADED FORM
- 10/10 had at least one Grade 1 or two Grade 2 victories
Boothill has only one novice Grade 2 – the 2022 edition of the Wayward Lad – on his CV and has finished behind Jonbon on his two previous cracks at last year’s winner.
Tingle Creek Chase 2024 trends verdict
JONBON is one of the classiest horses on the block and, unsurprisingly, emerges as the trends pick.
