11:55 – Lost Frequencies

LOST FREQUENCIES made an encouraging debut in this sphere when runner-up in what was quite a valuable race of its type at Wetherby three weeks ago and he looks the one to beat.

Stuart Coltherd’s five-year-old is from the family of the high-class 2m-3m jumps winner Empire Of Dirt and though – unlike Empire Of Dirt – he couldn’t win on his hurdling debut, he shaped well, running on late, and looks sure to do better back on softer ground with that experience under his belt.

Dedicated Hero and Young Getaway also made a promising start over hurdles and are others to consider. Most interesting is Dedicated Hero, who was placed in both starts in Irish points and showed fairly useful form in bumpers (dual winner here at Kelso) before his run at Carlisle last month.

12:25 – Cracking Rhapsody

An open-looking handicap with CRACKING RHAPSODY awarded the vote.

He recorded a second C&D win when he landed the valuable Morebattle Hurdle here in March and will find this race a good deal easier than the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham three weeks ago.

Cannock Park is interesting from this mark returned to timber with cheekpieces applied for the first time, with fellow front-runner Old Gregorian another to note given his current upward trajectory; he chases a hat-trick after wins over C&D and at Wetherby.

Other in-form contenders include Mack The Man and Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ Horn Cape, who was only collared in the dying strides at Hexham when last seen in May.

12:55 – Sagonige

With Jasmine d’Airy a non-runner, fellow hurdling debutante SAGONIGE gets the nod. Her fair form in bumpers included winning a mares’ event at Sedgefield (by a neck from Backdoorflush) on debut and she should have no problem with conditions here.

Exeter winner Roaring Home is another one to consider despite pulling up at Newbury last time. Royal Creek was last seen 839 days ago when winning a Ballinrobe bumper for Edmond Kent, changing hands for £90,000 after that nose success at 40/1.

Clearly things have not gone to plan since, but she’s still only six and looks one to monitor in the morning markets for confidence on this very belated return to action.

13:30 – Lunar Chief

The return to a flat track appeared to suit LUNAR CHIEF, who opened his account over hurdles here a month ago, and his bumper form gives hope for better still, so he takes preference over fellow last-time-out winner Forged Well, who steps up in trip here.

Follow Charlie should also give a good account, having looked as good as ever when third at Ayr last month.

Any market support for Irish recruit Siberian Star would look significant as he travels a marathon distance for his return from 728 days on the sidelines. A strong pace would suit Kilbrainy, but that looks unlikely, given the apparent lack of front-runners in the line-up.

14:05 – Jet Legs

Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ JET LEGS leaves the impression he could really come into his own now, tackling this 4m trip for the first time and gets the vote to land another win.

Raceview Road is another young chaser who shapes as if an increased stamina test will suit, having been outpaced at a crucial stage last time out and is the second choice.

The 2022 winner Flower of Scotland is potentially well handicapped and, along with stablemate Haute Estime (first-time cheekpieces here), completes the shortlist for a local stable with an excellent record in this race.

14:40 – Traprain Law

The recent third of TRAPRAIN LAW caught the eye of the Timeform race reporters and – as well as the ‘Horses For Courses’ flag – Lucinda Russell’s grey also holds the ‘Horse In Focus’ flag for Sunday’s feature at the track.

He should have more to offer back around 2m and can see off strong southern opposition in the shape of Matata and Gunsight Ridge and keep this valuable prize in Scotland.

Matata won well at Cheltenham when last seen, but the winning margin is misleading as he was left clear by the fall of Gunsight Ridge at the last, when there wasn’t much between them (Gunsight Ridge was closing nicely).

C&D specialists Tommy’s Oscar and Nells Son, both in good form, command respect too.

15:15 – Dare To Shout

Top-weight DARE TO SHOUT, a winner at the track over hurdles, has taken well to fences and looks capable of defying a 4 lb rise for his Carlisle win with further improvement on the cards.

Whistle Stop Tour, who looked a little rusty on his return to action last month, is likely to leave his chase debut effort behind, so he is feared more than Coqolino, who was runner-up on his last two starts but threw the race away last time and his jumping also remains a cause for concern.

Dunnet Head and Ozzy Cosmo are interesting chasing debutants, though the last-named will need to give the larger obstacles more respect than he did when falling twice over hurdles if he is to add to Nick Alexander’s success in the race (he won it last year with Ned Tanner).
