12:35 – Planned Paradise
Granted another assured round of jumping, PLANNED PARADISE could be the answer to this trappy-looking handicap chase. He was a good third off this mark in a higher-grade contest at Cheltenham last time and a reproduction of that would give him every chance. No No Tango has been absent for over a year, but resumes with his new yard in good form, and the booking of Patrick Mullins adds to his appeal. Hunter Legend is third choice ahead of Slievegar.
13:05 – Star Walking
STAR WALKING has made a promising start under Rules – she was successful on her sole start in points – finishing strongly in second at Uttoxeter on her hurdling debut last month. She started as odds-on favourite, but wasn’t as sharp as expected over 2m, but that experience won’t be lost on her, and she’s expected to show her true colours now, especially over this longer trip. Betty’s Tiara finished runner-up on two of her three starts over hurdles earlier this year, and could be the biggest threat, ahead of Lady d’Arbanville.
13:35 – Miss Hunky Dory
MISS HUNKY DORY is bred for more stamina than speed, but she showed promise over shorter trips last season, and proved better than ever on her return over an intermediate trip at Ffos Las after seven months off a fortnight ago. She was suited by the longer trip, but left the impression she’d strip fitter for the outing, so she’s one to be interested in exploring 3m for the first time. The Dark Edge and Lucky Rose also arrive in good heart and rate as the chief threats.
14:05 – Golden Move
GOLDEN MOVE is yet to match his fairly useful Flat form in this sphere, but he’s in good hands and appeals as a type to find improvement making an early switch to handicaps after seven months off, in which time he’s undergone a breathing operation. Intrepid Sud is also open to improve and Sunninghill could up his game in a first-time hood, looks a competitive affair for the grade.
14:35 – Flowing Cadenza
Venetia Williams has started the season proper in flying form and FLOWING CADENZA can be the latest returning from a lengthy spell away from the track to make a winning return. She isn’t getting any younger, but she won two of her four starts last season, and wasn’t disgraced in a stronger race than this when last seen. She is fairly treated and preferred to Sherborne, who is firmly knocking at the door but keeps letting down his supporters (beaten having traded 1.52 in-running or shorter on his last four starts). Chasing-debutant I See The Sea rounds off the shortlist.
15:10 – Jony Max
JONY MAX might have beaten the re-opposing School For Scandal at Taunton last time, had he not made a bad mistake on the way round (clouted the twelfth but jumped soundly otherwise), so, on better terms, he’s fancied to turn the tables. He’s clearly still in top form. The in-form Caeruleum promises to put up another solid performance.
15:45 – Frontier Prince
FRONTIER PRINCE and Trustintimes both shaped like ready-made future winners when runner-up on their respective debuts at Ludlow and Exeter. Choosing between them isn’t easy, but the former, who did well to get within a length of the winner at Ludlow, is marginally preferred given his obvious scope for improvement. Several newcomers appeal on paper, not least Marhaba Prince and Walk In The West.
