11:27 – Mr Trick

Apprentice riders get the chance to shine in the first of nine races at the track and it’s MR TRICK who gets the nod under Oliver Carmichael, a young jockey who has won two races on turf and now looks for his first win on the all-weather. Mr Trick would have finished closer with a clear run when third at Newcastle last time and given the mark he’s dropped to these days, he looks very interesting off just 1 lb higher now he’s back in reasonable nick. Ashford Hill caused a huge surprise when winning over C&D at 125/1 but there didn’t look to be any fluke about it so she’s a threat, along with the consistent Just Ten High from his inside stall.

11:57 – Natsumi

NATSUMI and Startling dominated a Chelmsford nursery three weeks ago and the pair may come to the fore again, with the former taken to uphold the form given she’s totally unexposed over 5f. She seemed to appreciate the strong pace set by Master Zack that day and, with a Timeform pace prediction of ‘strong’ thanks to the likes of Solar Edge and Roysdelight, she looks likely to get the race run to suit once more. Of the rest, Mister Coco Fizz reacted well to a visor last time, producing his first solid peice of form, so he needs considering. Market support for Dreambird Dolly on her handicap debut would be worth taking note of, too.

12:27 – Marhaba Ghaiyyath

Lots of middle-distance sorts for next season here. MARHABA GHAIYYATH’s debut was chock-full of promise, likely to have won had he not been forced to come from so far back and with above-average improvement anticipated, he’ll take some stopping. He’s a half-brother to several winners, including Stayers’ Hurdle winner Nichols Canyon, so should be extremely hard to pass if given a more positive ride today (booking of Richard Kingscote looks a positive one). Circus of Rome is the danger unless a newcomer is above-average. The most interesting of those could be Yes Honey whose dam was sharp enough to win over the minimum trip and she’s a half-sister to a winner on the all-weather.

12:57 – Timeless Spirit

She might have a wide draw here, but TIMELESS SPIRIT – who is closely related to several winners, including the smart winner up to 7f Perfect Tribute and useful 1¼m-14.4f winner Soul Stopper – showed plenty to work on despite being sent off at huge odds (50/1) when second at Southwell and can put that experience to good use up against likely-looking newcomers Kolo and Crack On Boys. Hush Puppy is another debutant to look out for, given his dam was a mile winner as a two-year-old, while Mdawi was given a considerate introduction when eight lengths eighth to Flagon Dry in a maiden at Southwell and this son of Peeping Fawn is entitled to do better.

Timeless Spirit Win or Each Way

13:27 – Forge Valley Lad

Lingfield specialist FORGE VALLEY LAD wasn’t seen to best effect when held up off a slow pace over C&D last time, and is well-enough weighted to go close with Joey Haynes taking over in the saddle for a yard going well. The in-form pair of Harlington and Global Resolve head the dangers, though it’s worth noting that Kieran O’Neill takes over in the saddle on top-weight Veccho so he is one to watch closely in the betting now sneaking into a 0-55 handicap for the first time (was originally allotted a mark of 79 after his three qualifying runs back in late-2022).

13:57 – Riot

This looks competitive, with several appealing candidates to choose from. Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ RIOT could be the answer having again left the impression that his turn is near when a close third at Chelmsford last time, just caught further back than was ideal. The seven-year-old remains 2 lb below his last winning mark and the return to a mile looks a good move. Bravo Zulu has been given a chance by the handicapper and is of interest tried in first-time-blinkers for his new yard, while there wasn’t much to choose between Hat Toss and Pjanoo when they were first and third respectively at Chelmsford last time, and they should both be in the mix once more.

5/1
Riot Win or Each Way

14:27 – Western Stars

It’s hard to see C&D winner WESTERN STARS having too many rivals for the lead here which should suit Jim Boyle’s runner who resumed winning ways with a bit in hand at Wolverhampton last month so must hold every chance off 2 lb higher. C’mon Kenny only just failed when back to form at Kempton in October, overcoming a very slow start, so is next best ahead of Le Rouge Chinois who is tenacious but probably just about in the grip of the handicapper. This step up in trip on handicap debut should suit Vinny’s Dream who is back on the level having unseated his rider at Sedgefield last month.

5/2
Western Stars Win or Each Way

15:00 – Pasha

A battle of two Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ runners. PASHA and Timetobenice both caught the eye last time out and, despite the presence of two unexposed types from top yards in Santorini Star and Hebridean Nomad, they could be the pair to concentrate on. The well-related Pasha is marginally preferred having shaped well all things considered upped to this trip on her all-weather debut here a fortnight ago. Santorini Star got the better of an odds-on Godolphin filly in a four-runner Kempton novice last month and she is respected with this step up in trip likely to bring about more improvement (dam 1¼m-12.4f winner).

15/2
Pasha Win or Each Way

15:30 – One More Wave

The return to this trip will suit ONE MORE WAVE, who got on top in the shadow of the post when landing a 5f Southwell handicap last time and a 4 lb rise looks manageable. Four Adaay didn’t do much wrong when fifth at Wolverhampton recently and another good run is on the cards at a venue where she has won twice. She is feared most ahead of Whats In The Bag, who is given another chance to build on his encouraging comeback spin at Yarmouth, and Mart, who has a good draw to work from and could get a fairly easy time on the lead.
