13.54 Newbury – Impose Toi
Impose Toi will likely go off favourite and rightly so. He won at Cheltenham last November before finishing second behind stablemate Luccia at Ascot in December. He was then third in the Lanzarote in January. We haven’t seen him since but he’s on a mark of 134 which is more than workable. It’s not a strong pick but I’ll side with him.
14.10 Newcastle – Mystical Power
Mystical Power has probably surprised most people in terms of how good he’s been. He’s also come back this year a broader and stronger individual. He’s still improving and he’s on an upward curve. The handicapper says he’s 2lbs better than Nicky Henderson’s Sir Gino and I’m keeping Mystical Power on side.
14.25 Newbury – Queens Gamble
I’m against Jeriko Du Reponet after his last couple of runs so I’m with Queens Gamble, who is relatively unexposed having had just three starts over hurdles. She’s won her last three and she’s improving. I’m with Harry Derham’s runner.
15.00 Newbury – Broadway Boy (NAP)
I’m strong on Broadway Boy. He won at Cheltenham last December off a mark of 146 which was an incredible effort for a five-year-old. He’s had one run this season whin third behind Senior Chief at Cheltenham in October. He could have improved for that and I’m really keen on him.
15.20 Newcastle – The Changing Man
I fancy The Changing Man who was well supported before falling at Wincanton on his return earlier this month. Brendan Powell is going up to Newcastle for the ride and I’ll take note of that.
15.35 Newbury – Issar DAiry, Etalon & Prince Quali
I’ve got three fancies for this one and the first is Issar DAiry, who is a dual course and distance winner. He returned earlier this month when second at Ascot and that will have put him in good shape for this.
I also like Etalon for the Skelton’s. He beat Gunsight Ridge earlier this year and I thought the latter was going to win at Cheltenham a couple of weeks ago before falling. Etalon can go close.
French raider Prince Quali is worth keeping on side purely because of the last run at Chepstow. He can show improvement and he’s on a hat-trick.
