13.54 Newbury – Impose Toi & Issam (each-way)
Nicky Henderson has numerous runners in here with Impose Toi at the top of the market and he’s definitely a horse to be on the right side of. He’s off a mark of 134 which is more than workable and there’s a bit of milage in that rating. He’ll be fit enough for this.
Issam is worth keeping an eye on as an each-way shout for Tom Symonds. He won at Exeter and Wincanton last season before coming fourth in his seasonal debut in the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las. He can show improvement.
14.10 Newcastle – Sir Gino
It’s brilliant to see Willie Mullins bring over Mystical Power to face off against Sir Gino. The latter was going chasing and he schooled brilliantly over fences. He’s unbeaten over hurdles and he won the Grade 1 Juvenile Hurdle at Aintree when beating Kargese. There is very little between them on official ratings and I’m siding with Sir Gino. I’m giving him the edge as he’s come on quite a bit and he’s impressive physically.
14.25 Newbury – Jeriko Du Reponet
Nicky Henderson has a great record in this race and he’s chucking Jeriko Du Reponet back in after a poor couple of runs. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t go back chasing. Saying that, some of his form here is pretty strong but I feel I have to side with him. The Famous Five could be an alternative if you don’t fancy the favourite!
15.00 Newbury – Senior Chief
Time for the big one! I was very taken by Senior Chief’s win at Cheltenham in October. The ground suited him really well that day and I’m sticking with him. He’s gone up 9lbs for his win last time and I’m expecting him to build on that. I love the way he travelled at Cheltenham and he doesn’t have to force the pace on Saturday. He can sit in behind before making his move.
It’s also worth noting that Harry Skelton has opted to ride Galia Des Liteaux instead of Midnight River so that shows how highly thought of he is. The outsider Sam Brown could also run a decent race and he could surprise a few people by running well.
15.20 Newcastle – Bowtogreatness & Some Scope (each-way)
I can’t get away from Bowtogreatness for Ben Pauling with Kielan Woods on board. Decent ground won’t be a problem and he won a competitive race at Newbury last time out. He was also a good third off the same mark when he placed at Kempton in February behind Forward Plan and Al Dancer. That’s decent form.
Some Scope is definitely worth keeping an eye on at a huge price. He’s well handicapped and the ground won’t be an issue.
15.35 Newbury – Issar DAiry
Imperial Saint has gone up 10lbs for his last win at Aintree and Issar DAiry is the horse to be with. He won at Newbury last year when beating Martator and the latter has done nothing but win since! Issar DAiry also won here in January when beating I’d Like To Know. He’s still reasonably well handicapped and his run behind Martator at Ascot earlier this month was a cracker.
