12:55 – Mr Escobar
Willie Mullins’ first Sedgefield runner MR ESCOBAR has his quirks and is not without risk but his clear second at Listowel in September is the best hurdling form on offer and he has since run well in a valuable Flat handicap. Maghlaak, another with good Flat form, ought to be capable of better than showed over hurdles at Cheltenham last week but Kingston Narcissus has finished second over C&D twice this autumn and may be the main beneficiary if the selection fluffs his lines.
13:25 – Lahire
This can go to LAHIRE, who ran one of his best races since winning over C&D last year when fourth in a Kelso handicap last time. Bathgate, who is back down in trip, and last-time-out Hexham winner National Question are two others with a chance.
14:00 – Clean Getaway (NAP)
The most obvious answer is bang-in-form 7yo CLEAN GETAWAY (nap), who has already collected three course wins this autumn and is probably still on a workable mark for this switch back to chasing. Mutual Respect is also in good nick but he was probably fortunate to win his last two races and a bigger threat to the selection may come from Minella Youngy, who was placed on ground that was slower than ideal at Hexham last month.
14:30 – Harper Valley
Laser Focus has very suddenly returned to peak form this month and it will be interesting to see how well he copes with a mark that is effectively 20lb higher than for his two easy wins. He can’t be opposed with any confidence but HARPER VALLEY seemed to respond positively to the addition of a visor at Kelso 17 days ago and is selected to win this race for the second time. Knacker Trapper is next on the list.
15:00 – Tom Creen
There are several with a chance here, most notably TOM CREEN who ran well here last time and has a fine record on this track. Bebside Banter and The Paddy Pie should also run well.
15:30 – Old Blue Eyes
This doesn’t look an easy race to work out with the market likely to prove a sound guide as to what is expected. It could be worth taking a chance on the well-bred OLD BLUE EYES making a winning debut, with fellow newcomer Is That Alright and Southwell runner-up Snapaudaciaheros two others to consider.
