12:40 Lord Of All Saints
The four-year-old LORD OF ALL SAINTS left the strong impression that this step up in trip was very much in order when a creditable fourth on his handicap debut at Chepstow. He should come on for that seasonal reappearance, when he sported a hood and tongue-tie for the first time, and gets the nod ahead of Dexperado, who looks sure to pick up a race sooner rather than later judged on his Market Rasen efforts during the spring.
George Mallory is also feared now stepping back up in trip, while recent Flat winner Alioski is also shortlisted having been disqualified from first on his last try over hurdles after causing interference. Deborah Cole won this race a couple of years ago so any market support for Arctic Saint on stable debut should be noted.
13:10 I Love Paris
Former Ed Walker inmate I LOVE PARIS can’t be considered too safe a conveyance given she’s refused to go to post on her last two intended starts on the Flat, but she’s easily the best of these on her day in that sphere and is worth the benefit of the doubt starting out for a new yard. Remarkable Flight was rated in the mid-60s for Charlie Hills and is feared most.
Stuart Edmonds won this with a heavy odds-on shot last term so any market support for newcomer Edna E Mode should be noted, though his winner 12 months ago had a very different profile (fifth hurdles start). Bramble Jelly wasn’t much cop on the Flat, but her dam was a 2¼m hurdle winner, so she might fare better in this sphere.
13:40 Woodland Park
A cracking little maiden hurdle but one which should go the way of Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ WOODLAND PARK, who lost no caste in defeat when going down narrowly on his hurdles debut at Carlisle, and he seemingly has a bright future (from the family of the smart 3m chaser Thunder And Roses so should progress well).
Jakar du Moulin is an intriguing recruit for the Paul Nicholls yard and it will be interesting to see how this point winner, who made £175,000 as a five-year-old, goes in the betting, while A Moments Madness, who shaped well on debut in this sphere at Wetherby, and Irish point winner Western Harmony are others to consider.
14:10 Impatient
Despite being sent off an unfancied 40/1 chance, IMPATIENT was impressive when scoring at Ffos Las despite some iffy jumping and, despite the slight drop in trip, can defy a penalty if in the same mood. The Wolf, another recent winner, could be the main danger if he goes as well in the visor as he did at Huntingdon last week.
C&D winner Risk And Roll wasn’t in great nick when last seen, and his best form has come on more testing ground. Almazhar Garde isn’t always the most fluent over his obstacles but might be left alone in front and run well accordingly.
14:40 Suitable Surprised
The market got this novice handicap right last year, and if this doesn’t come too soon after Sedgefield on Thursday, likely market leader SUITABLY SURPRISED might be good for another win for favourite backers. Purple Gown was beaten only two lengths when fourth at Newcastle last time and ought to be thereabouts under Brian Hughes.
Top-weight Bobbigrey is a handicap newcomer to monitor in the betting with the Jennie Candlish team in form, though she is bred to get further, a comment that also applies to Dropitlikeitshot who is a half-sister to the useful chaser Tile Tapper who stays 4¼m.
15:10 Faha Belle
FAHA BELLE, who represents a yard in good form at present, has a background in points and looked more at home switched to chasing when fourth at Sedgefield last time.
This stiffer track and longer trip is in her favour, so with Jonathan Burke back in the saddle she gets the nod over front-runner Another Day Out, who found one too good at Ludlow last time. The lightly-weighted Northern Reel, another Irish point winner, is another one worthy of respect as he may do better still as a chaser.
15:40 Dominics Fault
The vote goes to Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ DOMINICS FAULT, who was just worried out of it when returning to action on his handicap debut at Carlisle, and there should be better to come from this unexposed seven-year-old who is closely related to two winners, including the smart hurdler/fairly useful chaser Midnight Game.
Fellow ‘Horse In Focus’ Wise Guy showed more than his finishing position would suggest on his reappearance at the aforementioned Cumbrian venue, and he is feared most. Handicap-debutants Rumoursareflying and the long-absent King Ottokar are others with a chance, a comment that also applies to Activist now he’s dropped back in trip (for all he may want easier ground).
