14:20 Cheltenham – GA Law (Jim Delahunt)

GA LAW ended last season with a creditable second in Sandown Grade 2 and filled the same position in Chepstow handicap on reappearance, which sets him up nicely for this return to Cheltenham. 2-2 in handicaps at this venue, including a win in this contest two years ago (on good ground).

15:30 Cheltenham – Hamsiyann (Rob Wright)

HAMSIYANN was a dual French Flat winner in 2023. Had four hurdle races for new yard last term, hampered late on when close third in handicap at Ascot (extended 1m7f, good). 2lb higher today and has had just one Flat run since, in a never-nearer second when the stable had a one-two in the 2m2f Chester Plate in May. That points to a strength in stamina that’s not been sufficiently tested yet over hurdles and he looks set to take a big step forward for Irish trainer who had a well-backed winner of this race in 2022.

15:48 Newcastle – Annaf (Newsboy)

ANNAF is a high-class sprinter on his day and boasts a good record on AW (including two course wins). Won a huge pot in Saudi Arabia in February and that race likely to be on his agenda again this winter. In and out since returning from six months off but his Newbury third (inadequate 5f) was promising and he ran a fair bit better than the distance beaten suggests in the big sprint on Champions Day (6f, soft).

16:00 Cheltenham – Siog Geal (West Country)

SIOG GEAL won an Irish maiden point (yielding) in good style in February and looked a bumper winner in waiting when second of 12 at Aintree (good; 5-2 favourite) three weeks ago, finishing well having been dropped out in rear. Open to lots of improvement and high on the list.
