12:30 – Falco des Pins
FALCO DES PINS showed steadily progressive form in France and found only one too strong when last seen at Angers in March.
He looks interesting on his handicap debut and first start for Venetia Williams, a trainer who does well with her recruits and had a valuable winner at Ascot last weekend from the handful of runners she’s had this autumn.
Vincenzo was a creditable third in the Persian War Novices’ Hurdle on his return at Chelmsford last month and is another entitled to respect on his handicap debut.
13:05 – El Rio
EL RIO was disappointing last season but got back on track on his reappearance at Huntingdon last month, winning by three and three-quarter lengths despite a final fence blunder.
That was only El Rio’s second start over fences, so he is entitled to brush up on his jumping, and a 6 lb rise in the weights looks fair, given how powerfully he travelled and how readily he assumed control.
He’s had over four weeks to get over those exertions and should launch another bold bid.
13:40 – Noahsgreatrainbow
There are some useful hurdling prospects here, including NOAHSGREATRAINBOW, who won on his bumper debut at Wincanton on Boxing Day and was then runner-up in a listed bumper at Newbury in February.
He’s a strong gelding who should do well over hurdles and starts for Harry Derham with the yard among the winners.
Anno Power showed plenty of ability in bumpers, winning twice in that sphere, and can also do well over hurdles if her energy can be channelled (she’s a free-going sort).
14:15 – Jeriko du Reponet
The highly regarded JERIKO DU REPONET looked like an exciting prospect when winning his first three starts over hurdles, including the Grade 2 Supreme Trial at Doncaster, where he quickened up well to beat subsequent Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle winner Lump Sum.
Jeriko du Reponet lost his unbeaten record with a whimper when pulled up in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.
Still, it’s easy enough to overlook that effort, as Nicky Henderson’s horses weren’t right at that time.
He remains with potential and is a classy recruit to novice chasing. Brookie won several handicap hurdles after joining Anthony Honeyball last season and can chase the selection home.
14:50 – Don Hollow
DON HOLLOW shaped with encouragement when fifth in a well-contested handicap that has the makings of solid form at Carlisle 17 days ago on his first start for 18 months.
He’s entitled to do better with that outing under his belt and could be on a fair mark.
He still has few miles on the clock and is in excellent hands with Dan Skelton.
15:25 – Certainly Red
CERTAINLY RED failed to win last season but ran some excellent races in defeat, including when fourth in the bet365 Gold Cup here on his final start of the campaign.
He shaped nicely when runner-up to the reopposing Copperhead in a veterans’ chase at Chepstow last month, and he looks likely to give another good account of himself at a course where he goes well (he’s finished out of the frame only once from five starts at the track).
He can reverse the form on these revised terms.
16:00 – Kiwi Rush
KIWI RUSH was bought for £85,000 after finishing runner-up on his second of two starts in Irish points.
He has joined a trainer in Harry Derham, who has done well with his bumper representatives.
Broxy Music, trained by Nicky Henderson and the mount of Nico de Boinville, also represents a powerful yard and looks a likely type on paper.
