16:30 – Royal Alliance
Roger Varian’s Akrramm looks a likely improver on his second start, while plenty of striking newcomers need a close look, including Elements Of Fire, Raafedd and Dance In The Storm.
However, it might be worth sticking with ROYAL ALLIANCE, who justified support in good style at Newcastle last month and is open to more progress on this switch to Polytrack.
17:00 – No Saint
With many of his rivals far from solid, NO SAINT is taken to follow up his Southwell success. In-form Wrath Of Hector is the suggested second choice, ahead of Sea The Buckthorn and Aspire To Glory.
17:30 – Just Ten High
The refitting of cheekpieces and the return to a C&D, where he won in September, add up well for JUST TEN HIGH, and he has less to prove than most.
Batal Dandy should be very competitive but La Verite put up a good show for her new yard behind the latter at Kempton and can be the main danger with Billy Loughnane replacing a 7lb claimer. Liege can also play a part.
18:00 – Spitzbergen
With the standard-setters Rock Hunter and Camera Shy having something to prove, this looks like a trappy event. Camera Shy still has some potential and is considered, but this could go the way of a newcomer.
Desert Champion is bred for the job, but so is SPITZBERGEN, and the Crisford-trained juvenile is selected to make a winning debut.
18:30 – Apple’s Angel
The shortlist comprises the runners with respectable C&D form, namely APPLE’S ANGEL, Specified and Oasis Sunrise in that order of preference. That said, it’s not a three-horse affair, as many others also have possibilities at this level.
19:00 – Natsumi
Startling has won two of her three nurseries, including over C&D, and she should make another bold bid, but Bank On Kent and NATSUMI appeal in opposition. Clear preference is for Natsumi, who will find today’s opponents much more manageable than those she has faced in her novice and maiden runs.
19:30 – Haymaker
Last year’s one-two Blind Beggar and Regal Envoy can go well again, while Moulin Booj (second choice) should be happier away from the soft ground he’s tackled the last twice. Pure Angel needs a market check after her lengthy absence, but this is a weaker race than HAYMAKER is accustomed to, and he can take advantage.
20:00 – Hunters Run (NAP)
Most of these have something to prove, but HUNTERS RUN (nap) has found plenty of progress this autumn and was strong at the finish when a close second in his hat-trick bid at Southwell last time.
He still looks on a workable mark and is a major player again on his step up to this trip. The generally consistent Genesius is feared most ahead of the unexposed 3yo Al Haal, who looks a possible improver on her handicap debut.
20:30 – Penzance
While PENZANCE struggled to impact some good-quality turf races over the summer, he dropped to 3lb lower than when second of 14 in an ultra-competitive Newcastle Good Friday handicap.
Monday’s Kempton Listed race third underlines that he’s simply a better performer on AW, and he can prove too strong for Wadacre Gomez, whose excellent 5-7 C&D record (also 3-4 under Billy Loughnane) makes him an obvious threat. Westridge and Salamanca bring unexposed 3yo potential to a cracking finale.
