12:40 Captain Bellamy
CAPTAIN BELLAMY was an easy winner on his only start in points and he also impressed on his debut under Rules when readily landing a bumper at Chepstow last year. He was disappointing on his two subsequent starts last season but he could be worth another chance on his reappearance and hurdling debut given the promise of his win at Chepstow.
Skyjack Hijack has to concede plenty of weight all round but is a progressive sort who completed a four-timer at Newcastle last week and warrants respect.
13:15 Sorceleur
SORCELEUR showed ability in bumpers last season, getting off the mark at the third attempt at Taunton before finishing fifth in a Grade 2 at Aintree. He was a beaten odds-on favourite on his hurdling debut here last month, but he probably needed the run on his first start for six months and is entitled to improve for that initial experience.
He has been found a nice opportunity here. Wellington Arch was down the field in the same Grade 2 bumper Sorceleur contested at Aintree, and he can chase the selection home on his hurdling debut.
13:50 Captain Teague
CAPTAIN TEAGUE was a talented type in bumpers – he finished third in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, and he took well to hurdling last season, winning the Grade 2 Persian War and the Grade 1 Challow.
He was down the field in the Albert Bartlett, but that was his only disappointing effort so far, and this winning pointer looks like a smart recruit to the novice chasing ranks. He’s been found a good opening on his chase debut and is likely to soon be back in graded company. He’s been given a wind operation since last seen.
14:25 Etalon
ETALON took really well to chasing last season, winning his first three starts over fences before coming up short when tried in Grade 1 company at Aintree on his final start of the campaign.
Etalon was only seventh at Aintree, but he shaped better than that result would suggest as a blunder at the second last exaggerated the distance beaten. He’ll be better off back in handicap company and could still have more to offer over fences.
15:00 Asian Spice
ASIAN SPICE, a dual winner at this track around this time last year, ran creditably when fourth here on her reappearance last month, especially as she was ridden more patiently than the trio who finished ahead of her in a steadily-run race. She should be sharper with that run under her belt and looks like a big player off the same mark.
15:35 Coco Mademoiselle
Winning Irish pointer COCO MADEMOISELLE scored twice over hurdles last season and shaped with plenty of promise when only narrowly denied on her chasing debut in a novice at Worcester in September.
Coco Mademoiselle jumped soundly, bar an untidy leap at the third last, and she looked likely to win when produced to lead on the run-in only to be edged out close home. She looks well-treated, switching back into a handicap, and is open to improvement over fences.
16:10 Sunninghill
SUNNINGHILL shaped as if in need of the run when weakening into fourth on his hurdling debut, and first start for nearly two years, at Perth in September, but he proved more competitive at Uttoxeter last time when beaten less than three and a half lengths into third.
He retains potential as he makes the quick switch to handicaps, and he represents a yard among the winners.
