13:15 – Sorceleur

ITV Racing is back Friday for the meeting at Exeter starting here with a novice hurdle over an extended 2m. Just four are set to go to post. SORCELEUR was beaten at 4-5 by Pony Soprano on maiden hurdle debut here last time while Wellington Arch was one place behind Pony Soprano in a bumper last season so there probably is not much between them on that bit of form. However, in an Aintree bumper in which they both ran Sorceleur was miles in front of Wellington Arch and with his hurdling experience he has to be the selection for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden. He had a tongue-tie for the first time when last seen and has it again here. I’m sure he’ll improve a bundle for that effort.

13:50 – Captain Teague

Again a desperate field for a novice chase over 3m albeit CAPTAIN TEAGUE and Deafening Silence are very useful. I’m hoping the Paul Nicholls runner will come into his own over fences although of course he was no mug as a hurdler, landing the Persian War and Grade 1 Challow at Newbury. I just think there is more to come from this Ditcheat inmate – desperate in the Albert Bartlett – who was once third behind A Dare to Share in the Cheltenham bumper.

14:25 – Djelo

The big race of the day in the Grade 2 Haldon Gold Cup Limited Handicap Chase over an extended 2m1f. There are a few in here that can make the running including DJELO so there should be plenty of pace on. I’m hoping the Venetia Williams runner will sit just behind the speed and he has the stamina to come through late. A third behind Grey Dawning and Ginny’s Destiny in the Turners at Cheltenham was a very one effort and that 2m4f just stretched his stamina. If ready on the comeback I’d expect a fine effort from the Charlie Deutsch mount.

15:00 – Brendas Asking

Finally a race expected to have eight runners and eachway betting 1-2-3. This is a handicap over hurdles and an extended 2m2f for mares. This is not quality stuff at all. BRENDAS ASKING was in fine form when scoring at Ludlow last time and a rise in the wights of 7lb might not be enough to stop her. The Kim Bailey runner would have won much more easily that day without a mistake at the last. Worth noting that she did have a 7lb conditional on top then and now has the excellent Tom Bellamy so you could argue she’s up a stone. But I suspect she might still be good enough as the opposition is poor.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
