12:48 – Dare To Shout
DARE TO SHOUT had been given a wind operation before his return at Hexham last month and he ran well in second, pulling clear of third.
Dare To Shout, an Irish point winner remains open to improvement over fences and can give a good account of himself off a mark only 1 lb higher than at Hexham. Leading jockey Brian Hughes, who won a handicap hurdle on Dare To Shout last season, is in the saddle this time.
13:18 – Bill Joyce
Irish point winner BILL JOYCE made an encouraging start under Rules last season, winning bumpers at Warwick and Exeter before finishing down the field in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham.
Bill Joyce was sent off at only 7/1 for the Champion Bumper. Such is the impression he had created, and he is an exciting prospect for novice hurdles this season.
13:48 – Grey Dawning
GREY DAWNING was Timeform’s highest-rated novice chaser in Britain last season and is a top-class prospect over fences. So, he should prove difficult to beat on his reappearance before returning to Grade 1 company.
Traprain Law progressed well during his first campaign over fences last season and remains with more to offer to chase the selection home.
14:18 – What A Johnny
WHAT A JOHNNY did well over hurdles during his first campaign, winning twice and signing off with a good effort in defeat when runner-up at Perth in May.
What A Johnny pulled well clear of the third, producing his best performance yet on Timeform’s ratings, and he could still have more to offer. He has had a wind operation since last seen.
14:53 – Galia Des Liteaux
GALA DES LITEAUX failed to win again last season after making a successful return in a listed mares’ chase at Market Rasen. But she ran some good races in defeat, notably finishing runner-up in the Classic Chase at Warwick.
Galia des Liteaux also ran creditably when eighth in the Grand National last seen, proving competitive until late. That was a much tougher task than the one she faces here, and she sets a clear standard based on the form of her Classic Chase second. This looks like a good opportunity for her to return to winning ways.
15:23 – Snipe
SNIPE took well to chasing last season, winning twice and improving on his previous form over hurdles. He produced an encouraging performance when runner-up here on his return a couple of weeks ago.
Snipe was beaten a length and a half by the reopposing Wasdell Dundalk, but he would have pushed that rival closer had he not lost momentum with an untidy jump at the last, having typically travelled sweetly. He can build on that and turn the form around on 3 lb better terms over this longer trip.
15:58 – Byron Hill
BYRON HILL is going the right way and produced his best effort yet when successful over course and distance last month. That was a dominant five-and-a-half-length success from Byron Hill, who travelled well, drew clear on the bridle, and readily asserted.
For a seven-year-old, he doesn’t have many miles on the clock and can defy a 7-lb rise in the weights.
