13:15 Wetherby – Tedley
Tedley is worth siding with for Nigel Twiston-Davies. It isn’t the strongest race and Jamie Brace is on board claiming 7lbs which is a bonus. He won on his debut over fences at Uttoxeter a couple of weeks ago and he can win again.
13:30 Ascot – Leader In The Park
I was trying really hard to find reasons to back the outsider Bad but after going through all of his form I couldn’t find too many! I’ve landed on stablemate Leader In The Park for Ben Pauling as he could impress over fences. Maybe I’ll look at a Leader In The Park/Bad forecast.
13:50 Wetherby – Luccia
The Mares’ Hurdle is Luccia’s to lose. She was beaten in this race last year by You Wear It Well but there isn’t a horse of that calibre in here to take her on, especially over this two mile distance. Although it seems that Nicky Henderson’s horses need a run before they go on and win, I can’t see Luccia losing this.
14:05 Ascot – Madara
Willie Mullins has sent over Uncle Phil but he’d be a surprise winner for me! He’s fit and well but the handicapper has him in his grasp. I’m not sold on Master Chewy off a mark of 154 so I’ve landed on Madara. Keiran Burke’s horses are in good form and he can show more improvement.
14:22 Wetherby – Thunder Rock
I’m against Dashel Drasher and Sandor Clegane could be worth keeping on side but I like Thunder Rock. He’s got a great record fresh and he won on his seasonal debut at Carlisle last year. This could be a stepping stone to the Gold Cup at Newbury and Olly Murphy’s horses are in good form. There could be a bit more in him.
14:40 Down Royal – Envoi Allen (NAP)
There isn’t massive pace in this race and I’m siding with Envoi Allen against the favourite Gerri Colombe. The latter narrowly beat him last season but Henry de Bromhead’s horses are flying so I’ll go with Envoi Allen.
14:58 Wetherby – French Dynamite
I wasn’t impressed by any of Bravemansgame’s runs last season and he’s now a nine-year-old. Paul Nicholls’ horses aren’t running great at the moment either. I would have been all over Grey Dawning if he ran but he’s now a non-runner. I’ll side with French Dynamite. He’s fit and well and he improved when going over three miles.
15:15 Ascot – Rightsotom
I like Rightsotom for Joe Tizzard with Brendan Powell on board. He missed all of last season through injury and he was last seen when winning a Cork maiden in May 2023. He can only have improved with time! I’m hoping a mark of 126 is workable.
15:32 Wetherby – Spirits Bay
Spirits Bay is still improving and how he was running at Cheltenham behind Dysart Enos in December 2023 (when he fell at the last) was decent. He won two after that before signing off for the season when fifth at Newbury over this type of trip. The Nigel Twiston-Davies team are in fine form too.
15:45 Ascot – Chianti Classico
Amirite is popular in the market due to the form of Henry de Bromhead. I’ve followed him over a cliff in the past so I’m changing my mind and siding with Chianti Classico. He kept improving last season and he was an impressive fourth in the Mildmay Novices’ Chase at Aintree after winning the Ultima at Cheltenham. He’ll do me.
