12:50 – Laser Focus
LASER FOCUS has gone in again on the Flat since last seen over hurdles, and it’s surely only a matter of time before James Owen gets a win out of him in this sphere, especially now moving up to this sort of trip over timber.
Go Fox should be up to doing something off such a low mark and is next on the list. Christian Williams’ handicap newcomers Montys Soldier and Cave Article need to be kept a close eye on in the betting.
13:20 – Fortunefavorsdbold
It’s a difficult race to call, but there’s no doubt that FORTUNEFAVORSDBOLD and Gazette Bourgeoise are lurking on dangerous marks.
Preference is for the former, who shaped as though she’d come on for the run on her return over a similar trip at Ffos Las earlier this month, losing ground gradually in the straight but not unduly punished. This is a much weaker race, and she can take advantage of a further reduced mark (2 lb lower than her last winning one).
13:50 – Opec
OPEC was just a modest maiden on the Flat. But she had the race – and with it a successful gamble – at her mercy when crashing out at the second last on her hurdles debut at Market Rasen in June.
After a four-month break, she gained compensation when opening her account at Wetherby a fortnight ago. She has the potential to improve further in this sphere and appears to have found an excellent opportunity to follow up. Window of Time is the likely candidate to capitalise if the selection underperforms.
14:20 – Instant Gambler
Since being switched to fences, INSTANT GAMBLER has proved a different proposition, winning all four of his starts in this sphere and recording another career-best effort to continue his winning sequence slightly further at Fontwell last week.
He again travelled powerfully and jumped well in the main, leaving the impression he has even more to offer, and the five-timer is very much on the cards under a 7 lb penalty. Awesome Foursome is an interesting chasing debutant, and Lunar Contact isn’t without hope.
14:50 – Jubilant
JUBILANT reached a fairly useful level in bumpers, building on his Rules debut promise when opening his account at Huntingdon last season and running just as well in defeat under a penalty at this course when last seen in May.
He still didn’t look like the finished article on that occasion, and this ex-pointer is just the sort to transition well to hurdles for an in-form yard. Authentic Legacy and Miami Magic may prove the biggest dangers.
15:20 – Nevendon
NEVENDON built on his previous promise when he opened his account over fences at Southwell earlier this month. He reacted well to more positive tactics and was in full control before a mistake at the last.
He has since run a cracker back on the Flat at Wolverhampton and remains a horse to be positive about quickly returning to fences. Fever Dream looks like an interesting chase debutant and needs monitoring in the market.
15:50 – Catboy
CATBOY showed improved form after 10 weeks off. He was fitted with first-time cheekpieces to get his head in front at Fontwell last month. He made all of the running and only closed down late in the day.
He ran to a similar level when runner-up at Exeter last time, and he should be at home back over two miles. Mavis Pike and Ugo Bingo may provide the chief threat.
