13:00 The New Lion
THE NEW LION impressed when coming readily clear in a modestly-run bumper on his Market Rasen debut in April, strong in the betting and having plenty in hand. He is sure to have been well prepared ahead of this switch to hurdling, so he makes plenty of appeal representing an in-form yard over this sort of trip.
Belliano is a fascinating Rules debutant, having been bought for big money following an Irish point success. Strong market support for him would put a slightly different slant on matters, though, while Kayf Dancer is another to consider.
13:30 Quebecois
QUEBECOIS was possibly amiss when weakening quickly in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham when last seen, but he looked promising when making a winning debut under Rules, and remains a good prospect for jumping given he fetched £320,000 after finishing runner-up on his sole start in points.
He’s narrowly preferred to Juventus de Brion, who has already shown fairly useful form over hurdles and is sure to be opening his account before long.
14:00 Loverdose
LOVERDOSE landed a punt on his handicap debut fitted with cheekpieces at Exeter in the spring, leaving behind some uninspiring efforts prior to that, showing more know-how under a more positive ride and, from this low base, it would come as no surprise were he to pick up where he left off.
Pillar Rock surely has more to come given the yard he represents so he’s second choice, ahead of Come On Nia.
14:35 Mumfords Magic
There are lots with chance, but Dan Skelton’s lightly-raced MUMFORDS MAGIC is taken to build on his promising Stratford debut chasing second and get off the mark. He improved for the switch to larger obstacles, catching the eye, likely to have won if jumping the last better, and he is just 2lb higher in the weights now.
Kim Bailey’s Exeter runner-up Magical Escape also has better days ahead of him and is feared most. However, a solid case can be made for King Turgeon, Iberio, and Betterforeveryone too in this cracking handicap chase.
15:10 Theformismighty
Another open handicap with plenty to consider, but it could be worth chancing expensive point-winner THEFORMISMIGHTY, whose yard won this last year with a chasing debutant. He showed fairly useful form over hurdles last season, but is just the sort to develop into a much better chaser.
Can You Call pulled clear of the rest when second in this 12 months ago and can go well again, while Hititi is potentially well handicapped back in this sphere given his exploits over hurdles.
15:45 Wot You Wearing
The one who appeals most is WOT YOU WEARING, who is two from two over this course and distance, and he pulled well clear of the rest when going down narrowly to an in-form, race-fit rival on his recent seasonal reappearance at Hereford.
He is still fairly treated and is preferred to Siam Park, who ended last season on a downer, but he has low mileage and remains of interest. Solar System is also shortlisted, along with handicap-debutant Manowest.
16:20 A Pai De Nom
Given the yards and pedigrees involved, this bumper has a lot of depth. A PAI DE NOM is related to a useful winner for the Skelton team, and before market clues, it is offered on debut, representing a yard that is bang in form and has a good record in this sphere. Sober Glory and The Final Word fetched plenty after point wins and are just a few potential dangers.
