12:40 – Skyjack Hijack

SKYJACK HIJACK and Lihyan are chasing hat-tricks and look the pair to focus on, with Jennie Candlish’s lightly-raced hurdler selected. He took a big step forward when making all at Perth last month for an easy win by a dozen lengths, that performance suggesting there is even better to come. Lihyan has more miles on the clock but has built up a good strike rate since the spring and can go well again following his latest success at Uttoxeter. The returning Chris Cool is another to consider.

13:15 – Imperial Saint

A steadily improving sort over hurdles for Philip Hobbs & Johnson White, IMPERIAL SAINT ended last season with a win at Ffos Las and has the hallmarks of one who will make up into an even better chaser this season (former point winner) so could be worth siding with on his reappearance before market clues. Goodwin looked a likeable straightforward type himself over hurdles and is another to note on his return. Fit and in-form pair Moveit Like Minnie and Parisencore are others to consider.

13:50 – Stage Star

A small but select field for the card’s highlight, the Old Roan Limited Handicap Chase. STAGE STAR was an impressive winner of the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham on his comeback run last season and this looks another good starting point for Paul Nicholls’ high-class chaser. Minella Drama was a good second in this last year off a higher mark so may emerge as the biggest threat, while top weight Ahoy Senor merits plenty of respect at a track where he has a fine record.

14:25 – Torn And Frayed

TORN AND FRAYED hails from the in-form yard of Nigel Twiston-Davies and resumes on an attractive mark so looks the way to go in this veterans’ chase having signed off last year with a solid fourth at Cheltenham in the spring. Joe Tizzard also has his string in great nick and his Copperhead rates the obvious threat in his hat-trick bid, having won a similar event at Chepstow last time, with Cap du Nord appealing as the pick of the remainder for minor honours.

15:00 – Takt De Touques

This maiden hurdle can go to Irish raider TAKT DE TOUQUES who created a good impression when winning three bumpers earlier in the year for Gerald Quinn. Having won his first two starts at Perth, he again made all at Hexham when bringing up his hat-trick, once more showing a likeable attitude. He is narrowly preferred to Dan Skelton’s Sunray Shadow, while useful Flat stayer Emiyn could also have a part to play if translating anything like that ability to hurdles.

15:35 – Long Draw

Olly Murphy’s LONG DRAW is improving in leaps and bounds and was unlucky to bump into a similar type when going to Guard The Moon at Warwick earlier in the month. With further improvement to come, he can go one better here. The reappearing Kamsinas scored three times last season and rates the main danger with Fergal O’Brien’s yard going well, while Lavida Adiva and Got Grey both warrant plenty of respect too in this useful handicap hurdle.

16:08 – Claim Du Brizais

CLAIM DU BRIZAIS had a subsequent hurdle winner well behind her in third when runner-up in an Irish point in February and is taken to make a winning start for Dan Skelton in this mares’ bumper. Fellow Irish point recruit Siog Geal has also joined a leading yard with a good bumper record, that of Fergal O’Brien, and is second choice ahead of Anthony Honeyball’s Kapability, the mount of Harry Cobden, before any betting clues are known.
