13:10 – Bob Bob Ricard (each-way)
A very open 2m 4f Novices Handicap Chase and BOB BOB RICARD looks to be a bit of value. He ran in a decent race over hurdles last time but is a dual winner over fences. He’s a decent jumper, travels well in his races, so looks a solid each-way play.
13:45 – Intense Approach
A maximum field of five runners will line up for this 3m Novices’ Hurdle but that doesn’t mean it’s not competitive. Irish trainer John McConnell has a good strike-rate at Cheltenham and his INTENSE APPROACH ran a good race at Chepstow a couple of weeks ago. That may have brought him on enough to capture this prize as he steps up to three miles. Millforce looks the obvious alternative.
14:20 – Broadway Boy
I can’t look beyond the former course winner BROADWAY BOY who jumps and travels so well in his races. The six year old could be in for an exciting season.
14:55 – Gowel Road
A Pertemps qualifier for the 2025 Cheltenham Festival and it presents a dilemma. If you win- you’re in the final provided you are within the weights at declaration time. However, you could blow your handicap mark in the process. You also need to finish in the first four in the qualifiers to be eligible for a place next March. Zain Nights looks a contender, but it took him a run or two last season, to start his winning streak. The alternative is GOWEL ROAD who may be a safer option for a win.
15:30 – Bottler’secret
BOTTLER’SECRET ran very well in the valuable Punchestown Four Year Old Hurdle when chasing home Kargese last May. Nurburgring was third that day and subsequently won the Galway Hurdle, so it was a hot race. Dodger Long can chase him home.
16:05 -Moon D’Orange
MOON D’ORANGE is back with John McConnell after a spell last season with Fergal O’Brien and ran a nice race when third to Fascile Mode at Punchestown recently. He jumps and travels well and that’s an asset here. He’ll know what’s required.
16:40 – Block Rockin Beats (each-way)
The market may be the best guide as a few of the bigger stables have a couple of nicely-bred newcomers in this. I’m going for one at a price though, from a smaller stable, and that’s BLOCK ROCKIN BEATS trained by Oliver Signy. He trained French Paradoxe to win a few races for my racing club and he really likes this runner. He could have a solid each-way chance as he’ll be ready for this contest.
