13:30 Doncaster – La Bellota
LA BELLOTA has had a busy season and has done well after an excellent second in the Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury a few runs back. After that, he didn’t run too poorly in France and then put up another good performance at HQ when fourth to Coto De Caza in a Group 3 contest.
A slight drop in grade and a step up in distance to 6f now should help him.
14:05 Doncaster – Walbank (each-way)
WALBANK was outpaced at Catterick on the undulations last time, and he has to turn the form around with the winner, Vintage Clarets, who was four lengths in front of him that day.
That’s entirely possible as he has been slightly eased in the handicap to a mark of 95, and he didn’t enjoy a trouble-free passage last time at the business end of things—a big each-way chance.
14:40 Doncaster – Delacroix
It’s the last Group 1 race of the Flat season, and Ballydoyle may nab it – like many others this term. DELACROIX only won by a neck last time at HQ, but he was undoubtedly better than the rest and continued to gallop strongly through the line.
He’s got an outstanding pedigree and has no worries about the soft ground. He steps up in grade and looks like a top-class middle-distance prospect for next season.
15:10 Newbury – God Of War (each-way)
It’s that time of season when the ground becomes very testing, but GOD OF WAR has a pedigree to relish the heavy ground that he will encounter if Newbury gets the green light. He certainly has a little to find on the official ratings, yet these conditions are a great leveller. He can power home under the Iron Man Neil Callan.
15:45 Newbury – Al Aasy
The consistent AL AASY returns to one of his favourite venues with just six runners declared – he should be able to sit close to the front end. We all know he has his kinks and quirks, but he’s a very talented individual on a going day. He may have been found another ideal opportunity by his excellent handler, William Haggas.
15:50 Doncaster – Pellitory
Despite being very keen in the early stages, the two-year-old has run some excellent races in similar contests at York and this venue on the last two visits.
To be fair, PELLITORY has done remarkably well to plug on after using up so much energy, and if James Doyle can get him to conserve some of that energy early on, he will be powering through the line at the finish.
