17:30 – Sayifyouwill

The opening 7f contest is a Fillies’ claiming race where Sayifyouwill made a decent Irish debut last week for trainer Stephen Thorne, who has just taken out his licence having been part of the Adrian McGuinness team for years. She’s had plenty of racing in the UK and with a nice draw in stall three and getting weight off a few rivals, she could prove very hard to beat and give Thorne his first winner in his own right as a trainer.

18:00 – Cross Border (each-way)

An apprentice handicap over 7f where the big three in the apprentice title race all have a mount. Wayne Hassett rides Von Krolock, James Ryan is on Shoot To Kill and Adam Caffrey throws the leg over Skontonovski. One who has been very frustrating to follow is Cross Border, a former winner at the track and now trained by Gavin Cromwell. He’s a four-year-old now and the trip should suit. Any market moves should be noted and he could have a big each-way chance.

18:30 – I’m Spartacus

A 6f sprint handicap where Adrian McGuinness has a couple of interesting runners in I’m Spartacus – who was a good winner last time out here when beating Collective Power – and Hezahunk. The former could have a little bit in hand of the handicapper still as his second behind Blanc De Noir at Fairyhouse is good form and Adam Caffrey takes off a valuable 3lbs. Colin Keane takes the mount on Devil’s Angel for Kevin Coleman and could be popular in the market.

19:00 – Island Girl (NAP)

A two-year-old 5f handicap where Bobbi Rossa brings in the highest rating on 78 and Sam Coen takes off 10lb. Island Girl however could be thrown in here off a mark of 77 in her first handicap. The Fozzy Stack team are in great from at the moment and she looks a big player. She looks to be learning all the time and Daragh O’Sullivan takes off 7lb. She’s my nap of the night.

19:30 – His Majesty

The best race on the card is the Group 3 Mercury Stakes over 5f and there’s plenty of British interest. There’s 13 declared and six travel from the UK. Electric Storm has some decent form in the book and looks a player while Star of Lady M has improved 35lb this season, so she can’t be ruled out. However, we might just keep the prize at home with His Majesty trained by Aidan O’Brien. He mightn’t have trained on as much as they would have liked but some of his two-year-old form is superb and after 13 months off the track he made a pleasing reappearance at the Curragh last month. He has the scope to improve.

20:00 – Dakota Blue

The penultimate race on the card is a 1m maiden and it should prove informative. Some Performance showed plenty of pace on debut when fourth to Expanded, who went on to finish a neck second in the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket. Glenderry steps up in trip after finishing second to Aftermath at the Curragh in a race that has thrown up subsequent winners. The one I like though is Dakota Blue trained by Johnny Murtagh. An expensive Breeze-Up purchase, he’s been on the premises twice. Firstly, over 7f at Tipperary on debut and then at the Curragh, where he was fourth to The Lion In Winter, who is the ante-post favourite for next year’s Epsom Derby. That’s very strong form and the step up to a mile should suit. Dakota Blue is the one for me.

20:30 – Tuba (each-way)

We end with a 1m 2f maiden where Colin Keane is booked to ride Stand Back who should be suited by the track, but comes in off a poor run in a Ballinrobe bumper during the summer.  There’s a lot of exposed runners in this contest and it may be best to side with Tuba (each-way) at a fair price. He ran a superb race over a mile at Limerick when third to Bomberg and followed up when sixth to Emphasis at Killarney in a good maiden that has thrown up some decent performances since. He’s had a break away from the track and a stall one draw can see him get competitive. There are three reserves who could also be interesting if they get in.

14/1
