13:15 Anyharminasking

Cheltenham returns and the course looks to be in an amazing condition. We’ll have padded hurdles this season at the venue and there could be some value in ANYHARMINASKING for the father-son team of Jonjo O’Neill. He was second to Nemean Lion first time up last season so we know he goes well fresh. He’s got cheekpieces fitted for the first time and looks a big player in this 2m 4f contest.

8/1
Anyharminasking Win or Each Way

13:50 San Salvador

Just the five runners in the 2m Novice Chase where Path D’oroux heads the market but won’t get his favoured soft ground. If we get a slowly run race there could be a surprise, and SAN SALVADOR could go close if his jumping holds up. If it turns into a sprint, he could take advantage.

11/4
San Salvador Win or Each Way

14:25 Matata

A two-mile handicap chase where MATATA should be hard to beat. He won first time up last season and should take a bit of beating dropping into handicap company having run in the top-graded novice races at the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals last term.

5/2
Matata Win or Each Way

15:00 Gale Mahler

GALE MAHLER is short in the market but looks the most likely winner, having run up a sequence of wins that culminated in a nice prize at the Galway Festival when skating home by 10 lengths. This is tougher, but she looks progressive, and it just depends on whether backing short-priced favourites is your thing. I’ll keep a watching brief.

4/6
Gale Mahler Win or Each Way

15:35 The Newest One (each-way)

It could be a good day for Nigel Twiston-Davies, and his team is in very good form. THE NEWEST ONE was campaigned over hurdles last year but has won a chase. He has to be the each-way selection in this amateur  jockeys’ handicap chase.

12/1
The Newest One Win or Each Way

16:10 Potters Charm win / First Confession (each-way)

POTTERS CHARM was a good winner last time and will appreciate the ground. He looks like the most likely winner and could be another for the Nigel Twiston-Davies team. I’d be interested in any market moves for First Confession for Joe Tizzard, and could be an each-way alternative if all eight stand their ground.

7/5
Potters Charm Win or Each Way

16:45 Fiercely Proud win / Jilaijone (each-way)

A Conditional Jockey’s Handicap Hurdle where FIERCELY PROUD will be ridden by 10lb claimer Callum Pritchard, who is based with Ben Pauling. He was a good second to Lump Sum at Kempton last season, and that one won the Welsh Champion Hurdle a couple of weeks ago.

He looks one to beat, but Jilaijone has a good each-way chance and was second to Blueking D’ourox at this meeting last year. Gearoid Harney takes 6lbs off his back.

7/4
Fiercely Proud Win or Each Way
