13:45 – Qarlyga

Given the level of form on offer in this fillies’ novice isn’t that high among those with experience, a newcomer may well be up to the challenge. The one who makes the most appeal is the Roger Varian-trained filly QARLYGA, who is out of a listed winner in France for the same connections.

Live Each Day and With Zest, who make their debuts for William Haggas and Sir Michael Stoute, respectively, are others that need respect in a contest where the market will give clues.

14:20 – Hidden Secret

HIDDEN SECRET was held back by greenness when down the field in a novice won by his smart stablemate Ancient Truth on the July Course this summer. He’s been gelded in the meantime, and a much better showing can be expected from Charlie Appleby’s representative.

There are some well-bred newcomers for powerful stables in opposition, the standout being Mudbir, who’s from a family the Gosden stable have had plenty of success with. Due West is another debutant to note for Roger Varian.

14:55 – The Cursor

THE CURSOR, a colt by Frankel out of Prix de l’Opera winner Villa Marina, makes plenty of appeal for Andrew Balding, who won this twelve months ago, and he could just be worth chancing on debut before the benefit of market clues.

Million-guinea yearling Arabian Poet, who proved too green to make an impact on his Newmarket debut for Charlie Appleby, is indeed capable of better and, along with his unraced stablemate Tremorgio, provide Godolphin with the main dangers.

15:30 – Watching Stars

WATCHING STARS made it third time lucky with a gutsy display in a novice over seven furlongs at Thirsk last month. With this step up to a mile and a quarter sure to suit, Charlie Appleby’s colt can get the better of Anniversary, who has made a promising start and remains open to improvement.

Now he too steps up in trip for this nursery. Harmonia and Lazieelunch, who ran up a hat-trick on the all-weather in recent months, can fight out minor honours.

16:05 – Zapphire

Julie Camacho’s ZAPPHIRE followed a couple of narrow defeats by winning at Beverley in August and was back to her best when third at Redcar earlier this month, so looks the safest option in a tricky-looking fillies’ handicap.

Market support for the twice-raced Lunar Eclipse could prove significant on her first start for Kevin Ryan, as she remains open to improvement, whilst Surveyor wasn’t seen to best effect when third at Wolverhampton last time and is much respected.

16:40 – Present Times

PRESENT TIMES has already been gelded, but he shaped with plenty of encouragement when a length and a quarter second to Seacruiser on his debut over this course and distance and, with improvement forthcoming, is fancied to provide Charlie Appleby with another winner on the card.

He can edge out Byblos who has a similar level of form and improved from his debut to finish second at Newcastle earlier in the month. I Am I Said is a newcomer to note for Ralph Beckett.

17:15 – Al Misbar

AL MISBAR hasn’t lived up to his huge price tag or his pedigree as yet. Still, after a gelding operation, there’s scope for the half-brother to outstanding sprinter Battaash to step forward now he goes into nurseries for Charlie Appleby from a BHA mark of 83.

He’s preferred to last-time-out winners Veydari, who was successful in a similar event at Pontefract, and We Dare To Dream, who landed a maiden at Haydock in a competitive finale.
