13:55 Blazing Spirit
BLAZING SPIRIT cost €340,000 as a yearling and is of obvious interest on her debut for Godolphin and Charlie Appleby. Blazing Spirit, a daughter of Ghaiyyath, is the mount of William Buick so appears to be the first string for the in-form Appleby team.
Wajbah, a 200,000 guineas purchase, is an interesting newcomer for the Gosden team and could be the main danger.
14:30 Corolla Point
Charlie Appleby is responsible for another interesting debutant here in the shape of COROLLA POINT. Corolla Point fetched €78,000 as a yearling but the son of Blue Point must have impressed in his breeze-up as he fetched 800,000 guineas earlier this year. He gets the vote on debut ahead of So Darn Hot who shaped well when third at Kempton last time.
So Darn Hot is a promising sort but has plenty of stamina on the dam’s side of his pedigree so it is surprising that he drops in trip here.
15:05 Budding
BUDDING is still searching for a first win but she is proven on testing ground and has run creditably to hit the frame on her last two starts, so she looks to hold solid claims here.
Things didn’t go Budding’s way when fourth at Kempton last time as she was short of room in the straight, so that effort can be upgraded. Sneaky Blinder has remained in form since winning at Salisbury in July so is also one to consider on his first start for Robert Stephens (previously with Tom Ward).
15:40 Oman
OMAN made a positive start for this yard at Chester in May, cashing in on a fall in the weights to win a mile-and-a-half handicap before producing two creditable placed efforts over the same course and distance.
He shaped better than the distance beaten would suggest over a mile and three-quarters at Chester last time, weakening late on, and he is interesting over this much shorter trip. He’s only 1lb higher than when successful on his return so is on a good mark.
16:10 Dashing Dick
DASHING DICK hasn’t quite been at his best the last twice but he showed enough last time to suggest that he’s still in form as he only faded inside the final furlong after helping to force a strong pace away from the bulk of the action.
He was beaten only a head off a 1lb lower mark in August, so he’s clearly still fairly treated, and he can give a good account of himself at a venue where he has run well before and won over course and distance.
16:45 Balmoral Lady
BALMORAL LADY is enjoying a productive first campaign and she registered a third win of the season when successful at Windsor last week.
She had to work hard to win at Bath on her penultimate start but was a much more decisive winner at Windsor where she drew two and a quarter lengths clear, posting a career-best effort. Those victories have shown her effectiveness on testing ground and she can defy a penalty to complete the hat-trick.
17:20 Spirit of Breeze
SPIRIT OF BREEZE hasn’t been at his best so far this season but he wasn’t seen to best effect at Leicester last time where a slow start placed him on the back foot and meant he had to work his way into contention.
He was unable to sustain that forward move, making no further ground in fourth inside the final furlong, but it was his most encouraging run so far this season and he has been given a chance by the handicapper. He’s now 2lb lower than the mark he defied on his final start last season and is worth chancing as he drops into 0-60 company.
