14:15 – Loving Apprentice

LOVING APPRENTICE took a step forward when runner-up to a subsequent winner at Chelmsford last month and that form is up there with the best on offer.

That was Loving Apprentice’s third start, but she still looked a bit green early in the straight before staying on inside the final half-furlong, so she could still have a bit more to offer. She shades the vote over Leblon Girl, who has run to a similar and has hit the frame on all three starts.

14:45 – Larchill Lass

LARCHILL LASS raised her game when runner-up in a six-furlong handicap here a couple of weeks ago, looking well suited by the testing ground as she stuck to her task well to pull clear of the third.

She is up a couple of furlongs here, so her stamina is the question mark, but she appeals as being on a fair mark after edging up only 2 lb for her latest effort. Sam Feilden takes a handy 7 lb off her back.

15:15 – Calla Lagoon

CALLA LAGOON was too green to do himself justice when fifth at Kempton on debut, but he seemed to be getting the hang of things late on, and he duly built on that when successful at Ascot last month, staying on well to lead close home having been forced to wait for a gap.

The second, third, and fifth have all won since, and that form looks the best on offer.

15:45 – Sophia’s Starlight

SOPHIA’S STARLIGHT had been given a chance by the handicapper, and she bounced back to score at Newmarket last month, proving most willing under pressure to get the verdict by a neck. That effort underlined her effectiveness on testing ground, and she should launch another bold bid after edging up only 2lb.

16:15 – Kyle Of Lochlash

KYLE OF LOCHLASH has the best form and appeals as the most solid option. He was a wide-margin winner of a handicap at Salisbury in May and has remained in good form, finishing in the frame on his four subsequent starts, the latest of those efforts when third in a listed race at Saint-Cloud.

He can take advantage of this drop in grade.

16:45 – Spririt Of Acklam

SPIRIT OF ACKLAM failed to beat a rival despite being sent off at a single-figure price in the London Gold Cup in May, but he shaped with promise when a close-up third on his return at Ayr three weeks ago and is capable of building on that.

Spirit of Acklam understandably looked rusty on his first start for over four months, but he stuck to his task well to be beaten only a short head and half a length. He should strip fitter for that outing; already proven on testing ground, he is expected to take a step forward.

17:20 – Profiteer

PROFITEER has primarily performed with credit over six and seven furlongs this season, but he showed improved form when dropped back to the minimum trip, scoring over this course and distance a couple of weeks ago.

A good test at the trip clearly suited Profiteer, and he should go well again following a 3 lb rise in the weights for that half-length success.
