13:40 Model Approach

MODEL APPROACH was fairly useful for Jim Bolger on the Flat in Ireland. He has made a promising start over hurdles for new connections, building on the promise of his debut in this sphere when scoring by 19 lengths at Sedgefield earlier this month.

That wasn’t the strongest event, but it was hard not to be impressed by the manner of his victory, and he can put that experience to good use now. The chief threat may come from Harry Derham’s Cracker Star, as there must be slight doubts about the talented Usuario Amigo staying the trip over hurdles.

14:15 Alien Storm

ALIEN STORM was a fairly useful performer over hurdles but improved his form at the first attempt when making a winning start over fences at Plumpton last month, jumping well under a patient ride, pecking on landing after a big leap at the second-last but soon recovering and was well on top at the finish.

He won with a fair bit more in hand than the official margin suggests and looks one to keep on side at present. Idy Wood made the frame on both of his starts in points and is a respected chase debutant, whilst Lime Drop showed enough last season also to prove competitive here.

14:50 Seeyouinmydreams

SEEYOUINMYDREAMS may have some temperament issues, but she has quickly put behind her hurdling debut effort by landing a couple of weak races at Fakenham and Worcester in May and June, outclassing inferior rivals.

That should have boosted her confidence, and she should have even more to offer for leading connections, so she is taken to complete a hat-trick under a penalty. Useful Flat recruit Circuit Breaker may give her more to do than dual Newton Abbot runner-up Tribal Glory.

15:25 – Frere D’Armes

FRERE D’ARMES made a winning debut in this sphere over this course and distance around two years ago, and while his losing run is mounting up, he shaped well on his return from 11 weeks off in a useful handicap at Worcester last month.

He also seemed a little stretched by the trip on that occasion, so he should be happier at this distance, and he looks well placed to take advantage of a falling mark. He can get the better of Beau Balko, who shaped like he should have won at Ayr on his final start last season, while Holly is also considered on her chasing debut.

16:00 – Rubaud

You can make a case for several in this competitive listed event, but preference is for last year’s victor, RUBAUD. He developed into a smart performer afterwards, landing the Grade 2 Elite Hurdle at Wincanton on his next start, and he was far from disgraced in the Scottish Champion Hurdle when last seen from a mark of 148.

He has an excellent record when fresh and represents a yard that will have left no stone unturned. Nigel Twiston-Davies has his string in great nick so his Casa No Mento rates the chief threat after a break, with Kihavah and First Street both in the mix reverted to this sphere.

16:35 Killer Kane

It could be worth chancing KILLER KANE on his return to action. He often keeps better company than this and starts the new campaign 4 lb below his last winning mark, while he is also a past course and distance winner and his jockey takes off a valuable 3 lb.

Poppa Poutine is another potentially well-treated for his in-form yard, having missed last season. Blairgowrie has the potential to make up for lost time on the back of his encouraging chase bow at Newbury in January.

17:10 Rebel Intentions

REBEL INTENTIONS is a tough character when on his game, and if he can repeat the level of performance he showed at Stratford last time, he’s a likely winner of this. That was his first start in six months, and he figures a good mark on his efforts. Far Sight is an obvious threat if participating after three days off and Thahab Ifraj won’t be far away.
