13:22 – Knowmorediamonds

Having shaped with encouragement back from a break at Perth last month, picking up the Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ flag in the process, KNOMOREDIAMONDS is taken to make a winning handicap debut off what could turn be a very fair opening mark. He is a half-brother to the 3m winner Hardy Bloke and the fair hurdler/fairly useful chaser Gateau de Miel (2¾m-3m winner), so should relish this stiff test of stamina.

Irish import Shantou Lucky appeared to turn a corner when scoring at Perth and, topping Timeform weight-adjusted ratings, he is the clear main danger ahead of Dreams of Home, who has a first start for Martin Todhunter, and the veteran Serious Ego.

9/4
Knomorediamonds Win or Each Way

13:57 – Western Zephyr

This looks pretty trappy and the suggestion is WESTERN ZEPHYR, who resumes on an attractive mark, will have every chance if able to get back on track. He should be able to get his own way out in front, if connections again decide to ride him positively. Irish point winner Dollar Collar and the likeable Donnacha are both of interest starting out over fences here, while The Churchill Lad is respected in his bid to maintain a 100% record in this sphere following a battling win at Hexham last time.

Parisencore’s jockey Danny McMenamin has won the last two renewals of this race and teams up once more with Nicky Richards on a horse who should appreciate it if the rain stays away.

5/2
Western Zephyr Win or Each Way

14:32 – Malicash

With the exception of Country Park, who is from the family of Wicklow Brave, those with hurdles experience do not set an exacting standard so above-average bumper performers MALICASH and Junker d’Allier (who finished second on all three bumper starts) may come to the fore on reappearance. Preference is with the former, starting out for a new yard having been sold from Ewan Whillans for £40,000, after his mid-field finish in the Grade 2 bumper at Aintree. Lola Blue, a sister to the bumper winner/useful 21f hurdle winner Choccabloc, is also a likely-looking newcomer on paper.

4/1
Malicash Win or Each Way

15:07 – La Marquise

Jamie Snowden’s LA MARQUISE showed plenty in bumpers last season so this half-sister to the smart 2m/2¼m hurdle winner Mister Policeman is fancied to make a winning start in this sphere at the chief expense of form choice I Wish You (runner-up on all four starts including when beaten a nose by stablemate She’s Notjoeking at Hexham last time). Market Rasen bumper winner Woodland Park, Windsor Wife (who dead-heated for first on her sole outing in the Irish points) and Gentleman Bill (another Irish point winner who won a Newcastle bumper in April) are other hurdling debutants who could have a say. Watch the market for clues with Yhprum’s Law who was below expectations on his bumper debut.

15/8
La Marquise Win or Each Way

15:42 – Snipe

The Dan Skelton-trained SNIPE had an excellent first season over fences and, fresh from eight months off, he’s fancied to get back on the up given his excellent record first-time-out. He’s not the biggest, but has carried big weights well in the past, with all three wins coming with more than 11st on his back. Abuffalosoldier is a player, if able to see off Charlie Uberalles early and dominate (Timeform ‘pace forecast of week’) and Inis Oirr merits consideration on the back of a satisfactory return in third at Perth last month. Strong stayer Prince des Fichaux would appreciate any further rain.

15/8
Snipe Win or Each Way

16:15 – V Twelve

A case can be made for a few of these, but Martin Todhunter’s V TWELVE was last seen over hurdles scoring at Wetherby, and has been in winning form on the Flat since, so gets the vote. The returning Irish Lullaby looks to have more to offer following an excellent novice season over hurdles and, from a handicap mark of 109, could emerge as the main danger ahead of in-form duo Byron Hill and (former Paul Nicholls inmate) Beny Nahar Road.

Jonjo O’Neill won this race last year and top-weight King of Tara, whose run at Sandown when last seen can be ignored (suffered a leg injury), is afforded plenty of respect for an in-form yard.

6/1
V Twelve Win or Each Way

16:50 – Keep Running

An interesting handicap, but KEEP RUNNING probably hasn’t reached his limit as a chaser, and should be prepared for this return, so he gets the marginal vote ahead of top-weight Mint Gold, who was in good order when last seen in April (missed all of 2022 through injury). Five Dollar Fine is also of interest, with the drop in trip in his favour, while Brian Hughes is a notable booking for Hold Onto The Line having won on the horse in November 2022. The strong-travelling Damarta’s chances will be enhanced should Sword of Fate, Hold Onto The Line, Keep Running and Fia Fuinidh take each other on for the lead.

4/1
Keep Running Win or Each Way

17:22 – Jet To Vegas

No rules form to go on, but an interesting bunch on the whole. The market will reveal more but, as things stand, the £80,000 purchase JET TO VEGAS gets the tentative nod on the back of an easy point win in Ireland when last seen. Kapal Layar, whose dam is a bumper-winning half-sister to the top-class chaser God’s Own, and Blue Carpet also tick plenty of boxes. On the face of it, the stoutly-bred Walk of Faith may need a stiffer test of stamina (half-brother to Minella Cocooner; dam a 2½m-3m hurdle/chase winner) so Kadjar des Mottes may be of more interest on this occasion.

4/1
Jet To Vegas Win or Each Way
