13:35 – My Noble Lord

MY NOBLE LORD, a most progressive handicapper on the Flat, has both the physique and attitude to take well to this new discipline, so this half-brother to the fairly useful hurdler Hajey is fancied to get his hurdle career off to the perfect start.

City of London makes plenty of appeal on paper, being a half-brother to four winners, including the smart hurdler Nemean Lion, while Rakki is in the right hands to do well in this sphere and his trainer took this race in 2022.

The Irish recruit Rapid Mission is one to watch in the betting.

14:10 – Roaring Legend

Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ ROARING LEGEND presumably had this as his target following an impressive reappearance success in novice company at Stratford five weeks ago. With further progress in the offing, this C&D winner can put that fitness edge to good use.

Liari, who was 3-4 over hurdles last season, is another highly respected for Paul Nicholls, who has landed six renewals of this race since 2010. Yellow Star, who ran well when three lengths fourth of 20 to Helnwein at Sandown last time, and Mighty Bandit, who will be fit from a season on the Flat, head the shortlist of dangers, which also includes Latin Verse, who should come on for his run at Kempton last month.

14:45 – Boombawn

A listed novices’ chase won by the likes of Cue Card and Fingal Bay in the past. BOOMBAWN, whose stable won this last year with subsequent Grand Annual winner Unexpected Party, has already shown a useful level of form over fences.

That experience should count for plenty up against four chase debutants. Course winner Cuthbert Dibble appeals as a smart chasing prospect, so he rates the main threat, though Insurrection has plenty of size and scope and could get his way out in front if adopting the same tactics over fences.

Classy hurdler Springwell Bay has a good record fresh and may be more dangerous than Resplendent Grey. All the last-named should improve for jumping a fence.

15:20 – Into The Park

Five of the last six renewals have gone the way of five- and six-year-olds, and two from that age bracket could be the ones to focus on. INTO THE PARK and Lowry’s Bar, both lightly-raced types from the Hobbs & White yard, are appealing candidates for a typically competitive renewal of this valuable handicap.

There is a marginal preference for the former, who was a progressive novice last season and he should have more to offer.

Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ Jipcot, who has his first start for the O’Neills, and Tune In A Box are also open to improvement, while the Paul Nicholls-trained duo Afadil and Irish Hill merit respect.

16:00 – Il Rodoto

Paul Nicholls won this race in 2016, 2017 and 2022, and though two of those winners were with very well-fancied horses, the bigger-priced IL RODOTO looks a leading contender this year despite his trainer expecting him to improve for the run.

The seven-year-old acquitted himself well in the early part of last season and, following a wind operation, looks nicely handicapped on the pick of his form.

He is only 2 lb higher than his last win (January 2023) and 8 lb lower than when a good third at Cheltenham in January 2024; he can make a winning return before heading to Prestbury Park once more.

The King of Ryhope scored first time up here last term and is feared most, whilst Jetoile and Ga Law are also much respected.

16:35 – Stolen Silver

Last year’s winner, STOLEN SILVER, finds himself in a deeper event this time round, but it was hard not to be impressed with the manner of that victory and, though he made just one appearance afterwards, he makes plenty of appeal again here from just 4 lb higher.

Manofthepeople, a winner at Cheltenham when last seen who represents a yard in form, and unexposed stayer Twinjets head the list of dangers in a cracking contest.

The well-treated Sail Away would be a big danger if an easy lead were allowed, though jockey bookings suggest that Ballygrifincottage is the number one stable hope. Nassalam and Kitty’s Light may have longer-term targets, but this should blow away the cobwebs.

17:10 – Moneygarrow

MONEYGARROW and Keel Strand are both potentially exciting recruits from points representing top yards and they may dominate this. The first-named, a brother to Minella Crooner, might be more forward and is marginally preferred for all.

Paul Nicholls has farmed this race over the years. Holokea deserves respect after scoring at Worcester on debut in the summer. Still, this race looks deeper, and as big a danger could be newcomer Harry Junior from the Foxrock family.
