Dewhurst Stakes 2024 trends and stats for Newmarket 3.00 on Saturday

The trends picked out last weekend's winner of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe...

The Lion In Winter

The last four winners of the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes have bagged Classic honours the following season – and leading fancies for next season’s big races attempt to enhance their credentials at Newmarket on Saturday.

The Lion In Winter emerged as the antepost favourite with Paddy Power for the 2000 Guineas and Epsom Derby after a taking success in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes in August – and that form has been boosted by the second, Wimbledon Hawkeye, subsequently landing the Royal Lodge Stakes.

The Ballydoyle juvenile faces Godolphin’s early prospects for next year’s Classics, however, in the form of Superlative Stakes scorer Ancient Truth and Shadow Of Light.

Dewhurst Stakes odds can be found on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise key historical trends from the last 10 renewals and a tip based off the big-race stats are below.

Dewhurst Stakes 2024 trends

FLAT FORM

  • 10/10 had at least two career runs

Expanded can be scrubbed from calculations having only made a successful racecourse debut at the Curragh last weekend.

COURSE FORM

  • 10/10 had no more than two runs at Newmarket

A concern to be flagged about Godolphin runner Ancient Truth, who has solely raced at Newmarket and is three from three at HQ.

SEASON FORM

  • 9/10 had at least two wins that season

Seagulls Eleven, who was third in the Group 1 Vincent O’Brien National Stakes and second behind Ancient Truth in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes over C&D, and Ballydoyle outsider Rock Of Cashel are the latest to fall by the wayside.

DISTANCE FORM

  • 9/10 had at least 1 run over 7f

Shadow Of Light is the highest-rated runner in the six-strong field following his emphatic success in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes two weeks ago but the Godolphin fancy has exclusively raced over six furlongs.

Dewhurst Stakes 2024 trends verdict

The Lion In Winter – the antepost favourite for next year’s 2000 Guineas and Epsom Derby – emerges as the trends pick to land the Group 1 honours. It is worth noting that connections landed last year’s renewal with City Of Troy.
