13:35 Beau Quali

French recruit BEAU QUALI made a promising start to his career when second in a juvenile hurdle at Lyon Parilly in March and, having joined a top yard subsequently, improvement looks sure to be on the cards. A half-brother to the Robert Walford-trained Prince Quali and the Harry Whittington-trained Qualismart, he’s selected to go one better. Farland got off the mark in bumpers in cosy fashion at Fakenham and rates the main threat after a summer wind-op, with Tuxedo Junction – a 35,000 guineas recruit from James Fanshawe – and Irish point-to-point recruit Peso also of some interest.

14:10 Kap Boy

A few in with chances but KAP BOY made a winning debut in a bumper at this meeting last year, a race won by classy stablemates McFabulous and Knappers Hill previously, and having matched that form when 7 lengths third to Roysse at Newbury three months later, this athletic sort is fancied to make his mark on his return/hurdling debut.

Clearly testing ground is no issue for this Kapgarde gelding, but his dam produced her best run on slightly quicker going and he’s fancied to score at the expense of Le Fauve, who has already finished runner-up twice in this sphere and sets a decent standard to aim at on reappearance. Bumper winner French Ship can edge out Rules debutant River Run Free for third.

14:45 Regatta De Blanc

Prolific pointer/hunter chaser REGATTA DE BLANC, whose half-sister Presenting A Queen won this race two years ago, has made an interesting switch from Will Biddick to Paul Nicholls having created a good impression so far and he’s worth a chance to make a successful debut for his top yard which won three renewals of this race on the bounce between 2017 and 2019.

Loughanmore winner Cherry Brave has showed something between the flags and looks a threat, while Rockstown Girl could play a hand if back on song after a break. Fireball Frenzy and Longhouse Legacy are both respected, too.

15:15 Ryan’s Rocket

Although RYAN’S ROCKET has gained his hurdle wins around 2m, his pedigree and a 3m point success at the start of his career suggest he can go on to even better things over this intermediate trip. He represents the Fergal O’Brien team which won this race in 2017 and 2022.

Dan Skelton’s Juventus du Brion showed plenty of promise in two outings last season and, for all he might prefer deeper ground, is feared most ahead of the more-established, prolific pair of Flying Fortune and Intense Approach. Worcester winner Handlethekettle remains with potential but will need to step up on the form of that success where he made all.

15:50 Good Boy Bobby

The Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained GOOD BOY BOBBY goes extremely well fresh, won this race from just 1 lb lower a year ago, and returns with his yard in tremendous order, so a bold repeat bid looks firmly on the cards. It’s been a long time since his last win – February 2021 – but Enrilo (on the back of a breathing op) and consistent top-weight Certainly Red contested a much better race than this at Sandown when last seen in the spring and head the opposition.

A jump back up in the weights probably leaves Ffos Las specialist Amateur vulnerable, and bigger threats could emerge from the likes of the returning The Two Amigos, and last-time-out winners Francky Du Berlais and Copperhead.

16:25 Goshhowposh

A cracking early-season novice handicap with the vote going to Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ GOSHHOWPOSH, who promises to improve for the switch to fences and represents a stable that often targets this meeting and is going pretty well at present.

Grade 3-placed over hurdles, the dual course winner Isaac des Obeaux is also sure to be well prepared for this chase debut, with Warwick winner G A Henty and Irish top-weight Sea Music also commanding respect, especially if the rain stays away.

17:00 Washington

WASHINGTON was let down by his jumping when pulled up on his Ludlow chasing debut/sole start for Paul Nicholls, but he’s been given a major chance by the handicapper on a mark of 118 back over hurdles on his first start for Harry Derham a year on and is taken to capitalise.

Top-weight Gin Coco shaped better than the bare result in the Swinton Handicap when last seen and, following a wind op, is second choice ahead of Irish-raider Starman who reverts to hurdles. The match-fit Onemorefortheroad looks the pick of the rest.

17:30 Rouge De L’Quest

ROUGE DE L’QUEST was much improved with blinkers and a tongue-tie added last season, successful at Ffos Las in March prior to posting a pair of solid runners-up efforts (including at this venue). He’s taken to pick up where he left off from what appeals as still being a workable mark.

The hat-trick-seeking Belgarum and top-weight Roll With It both arrive fit and in form and could emerge as the lead threats, with School Days Over another to consider following a consistent spell over hurdles.
