Horse Racing Tips: Timeform’s Friday fancies feature a 5/1 chance at Ascot

The boffins reckon Garfield Shadow (16:30) has still room to improve.

14:12 – Be Frank

BE FRANK looked a promising handicapper last year, winning back-to-back races over six furlongs at Salisbury and Windsor (both good to firm), and he has shaped well on several occasions this season.

He left the impression he’s building up to something when hitting the frame a Newmarket a fortnight ago, staying on to finish never nearer than at the finish under a patient ride.

He isn’t long with Ian Williams and he’s worth persevering with from what is now a career-low mark. Warning Sign and Shaladar both make plenty of appeal as alternatives.

14:47 – Hutchence

HUTCHENCE is the sole three-year-old in the field and he’s progressed well since being fitted with headgear, opening his account with plenty in hand over a mile and a half in first-time blinkers at Salisbury in July and following up at Newbury three weeks later.

He could not complete a hat trick with a visor fitted at Haydock last time, but he left the firm impression that the step up to a mile and three-quarters was in his favour, and he could yet have even more to offer now trying two miles for the first time.

Wind Your Neck In saves his best efforts for the mud and is second choice ahead of True Legend.

Hutchence Win or Each Way

15:22 – Russian Crescendo

RUSSIAN CRESCENDO has an attractive pedigree. She built considerably on her debut form when opening her account over a mile and a half at Kempton last month, looking more professional and winning with a fair bit up her sleeve.

The bare form of that race is nothing special, but she is quite a big filly who is still growing into her frame, and there should be even more to come from her now switched to turf.

William Haggas’ filly can follow up at the expense of Fireblade, who offered something to work on amidst greenness last month and should take a step forward.

15:57 – Tabletalk

TABLETALK has seemingly always been well regarded, running in the Derby on just his third start, and he proved himself an intelligent performer when winning the Melrose at York in August. He relished the step up to this sort of trip on that occasion, and there’s plenty to like about him physically, so there should be even more to come.

He’ll be a big player back up in grade, provided he handles softer conditions. Go Daddy can call upon placed form at a slightly higher level than this, so he demands respect, while Allonsy’s ceiling has yet to be ascertained.

16:30 – Garfield Shadow

A good-quality handicap which can go the way of GARFIELD SHADOW, who has won a couple of useful handicaps at Chester this season and continued the theme of gradual progression when finishing a close third in a big-field seven-furlong handicap at Leopardstown last month.

He had no problem with the longer trip but was given a little too much to do, closing to the line. Garfield Shadow is not yet fully exposed, but he remains on a competitive mark. Never So Brave promises to be suited by this drop back to 6f and could emerge as the main danger, although handily-weighted duo Rohaan and Baradar can also have a say.

Garfield Shadow Win or Each Way

17:05 – Pearl Eye

PEARL EYE pulled clear of the remainder when an unlucky loser at Chester recently and, granted better luck-in-running, the four-year-old, who goes well in testing ground, may well gain compensation here.

Next on the list is Ebt’s Guard, who is just about the pick at the weights. He ran well for a long time in Cambridgeshire on Saturday. The unexposed Tareefa has to be feared, too, while Monkey Island could have a part to play if handling the ground and Thunder Road is not without each-way hope in an open race to finish the card.
