A fillies handicap on soft ground presents its own challenges and it could pay to side with Maggie’s Way to hit the frame at least. She comes in here fresh, having not had a run this season yet, and it may be worth looking away from the market leaders in a contest like this.
13:50 Ascot – Relief Rally
I always look for an ‘anchor’ pick in these multiples and Relief Rally fits the bill her. She was a good second at Newbury, and caught my eye as she really finished her race off well, behind No Half Measure. This is a good race for her to get a head in front again.
14:05 Newmarket – Twafeeg
Archie Watson saddles Twafeeg with Hollie Doyle on board and they thought enough of him to run in a good race at Ascot last time after a debut win at Doncaster. He’s had a little break and the stable are in good form.
14:40 Newmarket – Elmalka
The Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes where ground conditions will be key. Elmalka is the 1,000 Guineas winner and it’s easy to forget how good a filly she is. She’s hasn’t won in two runs since but a return to Newmarket again could see her shine.
15:00 Ascot – Wiltshire
William Haggas’ runner Wiltshire was second at Haydock last time over 5f so will handle conditions and is a previous winner over a 6f trip & previously over 7f. He’s very consistent and has been solid all season.
