17:10 – Hero Of The Hour
A 5f Sprint where Hero Of The Hour is top rated on a mark of 64. Realtin Fantasy starts back on the all weather after a decent season on grass and could go well from a stall three berth, but with James Ryna claiming 3lb off Hero Of The Hour, he gets the nod. He’s a dual winner at this venue since switching to Tom McCourt last season – a five-time winner at the track in total. His recent run at Fairyhouse can be upgraded in a higher grade and can go better in a race with a lot of pace from his stall 14 draw. Phil’s Dream and Stopitnowjulia are others with chances.
17:45 – Inishmot Prince
An interesting, rated-race and although there’s just six runners – it’s very tight. Valiant Force has the standout form on his Breeders Cp run but needs to bounce back to form now taking a big drop in class. The jury is still out n whether he has trained on as a three-year-old though. Betsen and Harry’s Bar run for Jack Davidson and have their chance but need to show more. Despite being wrong at the weights, I fancy Inishmot Prince to go well. He much higher rated on the all weather and is a nine-time winner at this venue. I’ll have a swing at him as he always runs his race here and some of the others have a little to prove.
18:15 – Arizona Blaze
You can make a case for plenty of these. Ger Lyons has won three out of the last four runnings of this contest and relies on Revoke for the Juddmonte team who was a heavily-backed winner at Naas over 6f in August when winning her maiden on debut. The third fourth and fifth have all won maidens subsequently. She drops down to 5f for this valuable Stakes race and runs from stall 13. However, lack of inexperience could be against her. Powerful Nation was a ready winner last time and should be in the mix again. However, Arizona Blaze could be hard to beat – even with a penalty. He sets a really good standard and dropping in grade can prove too good for these.
18:45 – Zaraahmando
There looks to be a lot of dead wood in this race but handicap debutant Annie Lavinia looks on a workable mark of 58 with Billy Lee on board. However I wore taken with his turf runs than his debut effort at Dundalk last time so I’ll leave alone for now. One that interests me is Andy Slattery’s Zaraahmando who is bred for the all-weather and can go close. The Slattery team are in fine form too at the moment.
19:15 – Va Va Vroom (each-way)
The Star Appeal Stakes over 7f for two-year-olds looks very competitive with a lot of top trainers represented. Ballydoyle’s Bernard Shaw set the standard and runs from stall nine so should be able to get close to the lead from there. His stablemate Right and True should be suited by the step up in trip but there could be classier runners in this. The Henry de Bromhead-trained Minaun View makes her racecourse debut, but it looks a big ask. I’ll side with Jessica Harrington’s Va Va Vroom, who was second to January on debut before scoring at Leopardstown from a stall 14 draw. She went to France after that but struggled a little in the soft ground when fifth to Simmering. The quicker ground should suit her better and I’ll give her an each-way chance against Bernard Shaw.
19:45 – Black Storm (NAP)
This is for horses that are rated 70 or under. I’m not sure how Black Storm has got into this after his cracking run at Cork when finishing second last month. He can show improvement and if he can be more streetwise over the first couple of furlongs then he could be hard to beat!
20:15 – Tough Talk
Adrian Murray’s Malex could improve a lot after his win at Tipperary after 18 months off the track but I’m not fully convinced he can follow up. I Am Superman could go close and he’s a pace angle but I’m with Tough Talk. He won at Laytown last time out and the all-weather track should suit him. He’s getting 14lbs from the likely favourite Malex so I’ll stick with Ger Lyons’ runner.
