Ace Impact defied a whole host of trends to land last season’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe when becoming the first three-year-old winner of Europe’s most prestigious race since 2017.
The now-retired colt won the Prix du Jockey Club (the French Derby) en route to claiming the Longchamp spoils and this term’s Classic conquerer, Look De Vega, will be aiming to follow in his hoofprints in Sunday’s 15:20.
While three-year-olds don’t necessarily boast the strongest record in recent editions of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, half of the field will fly the flag for the Classic crop in the latest clash of the generations.

FLAT FORM
- 10/10 had at least four career wins
A whole host of runners fall at the first hurdle including leading antepost fancy Look De Vega, Japanese raider Shin Emperor, the Joseph O’Brien-trained Al Riffa, Frankel colt Delius, Sea The Stars filly Aventure, promoted St Leger third Sunway and outsider Survie.
You can tell from this trend alone that it is, perhaps, not the strongest renewal of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
LAST TIME OUT
- 10/10 finished in the top four on their most recent outing
Zarakem (11th of 13 in the Juddmonte International) is the next to be scrubbed from calculations.
- 10/10 had their most recent run within the last 47 days
Despite winning her last four races, Mqse De Sevigne can be removed from the equation as her last outing (the Prix Jean Romanet) took place 49 days ago.
DISTANCE FORM
- 9/10 had at least one win over 12 furlongs
The 12-furlong test thrown up by the race looks likely to be too sharp for Sevenna’s Knight, who has only scored over further.
FLAT RUNS
- 9/10 had at least seven career runs
Prix Niel winner Sosie falls agonisingly short having only raced six times in his career.
GROUP FORM
- 9/10 had at least two Group 1 victories
Continuous, who finished fifth in last season’s renewal, and Haya Zark have only won once at the highest level.
ODDS
- 8/10 had a starting price of 131/10 or shorter
Fantastic Moon can probably be ignored as the four-year-old was available at a bigger price following final declarations on Thursday.
Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 2024 trends verdict
There are three horses that emerge from the pack on the most important trends achieved by at least nine winners of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe since 2014 – Bluestocking, Fantastic Moon and Los Angeles.
Fantastic Moon’s big price means BLUESTOCKING – supplemented for €120,000 – and LOS ANGELES – Ballydoyle’s first string – get the nod.
