13:30 Newmarket – Queen of Soldiers (each-way)
She is bottom weight and also wears blinkers for the firs time and that should help her focus better. Queen of Soldiers looked slightly one-paced last time at Ayr when third to Yorkshire Lady over 10f, but they didn’t go much of a gallop. With a stronger tempo in this contest likely, she can take a step forward now over the same trip.
13:50 Ascot – Relief Rally
William Haggas’ three-year-old deserves to get a win on the board in 2024 having run with credit on each of her three starts to date this season. Relief Rally has some solid form in the book at this venue over this 5f trip and a welcome return to the winners’ circle could await this daughter of Kodiac.
14:05 Newmarket – May Encounter (each-way)
Away from the top two in the market, Brighton Boy and Twafeeg there are quite a few who have an attractive each-way look about them. May Encounter ran really well on her debut at Salisbury and looks a big improver from the Henry Candy stable that have a much better record with second-time out runners. She may well just be flying under the radar a little.
14:25 Ascot – God’s Window (each-way)
He has been set some very tough tasks since winning on his return to action this season at Nottingham, five runs ago. He caught my eye when staying on quite nicely at Kempton last time against what could be a top-class performer in Kalpana over 1m 4f. The soft ground holds no fears for God’s Window him and I expect him to be picking up the pieces late in the day as he is the only three year-old in the line-up, so he gets a chunk of weight from the older horses in the weight-for-age allowance.
14:40 Newmarket – Nashwa
The five-year-old Nashwa arrives off the back of a 189 day lay-off but there is no getting away from the fact that in soft ground she should have too much for her stablemate Inspiral. There are also a few young guns in here bidding to stake their claim at Group 1 level, but the Gosdens’ runner can enjoy a fantastic Autumn campaign starting now.
15:00 Ascot – English Oak
Has been a fantastic advertisement for the new owners Wathnan Racing when putting up a super performance when winning the Buckingham Palace Stakes at the Royal meeting in June. English Oak has only tried this 6f trip once when going down by a neck to Rohaan at this venue 12 months ago. This 6f trip might just be his bag.
15:20 Redcar – An Outlaws Grace (each-way)
He’s been overlooked in the market as with an official rating of 9, he ought to be bang on the premises at the business end. The Richard Hannon team have a remarkable record in this type of contest and An Outlaws Grace ran very well in a similar contest at Doncaster last time over 110 yards further. His stamina may have given out then, but back down to 6f, he’s going to put up a big performance on all known form.
15:35 Ascot – Germanic
The three-year-old looked the winner when kicking for home at Doncaster, but he’s made his effort far too early. Germanic come up for air well inside the final furlong that day but surprisingly the handicapper has left him on the same rating of just 9. With delayed tactics now, he can collect a big prize for connections.
