17:00 THREE PLATOON

Only the recent C&D winners THREE PLATOON and Violeta make much appeal. Ben Haslam’s filly can confirm placings with Carlton, Wheres The Crumpet and Milltown Lily but might have to play second fiddle to Rebecca Menzies’ charge. The selection isn’t the easiest to handle but the excellent Kaiya Fraser was able to coax the best from him here last week.

17:30 SYDNEY SEABREEZE

The longer trip in a potentially tactical affair is the concern with Arcon (first run beyond 1m4f) and Gastronomy, who can both pull hard. Unique Spirit (second choice) should go well once more but the vote goes to SYDNEY SEABREEZE, who could yet be capable of better for a yard with a fair record here down the years.

18:00 EMPOWERED QUEEN

River Blackwater had a couple of lengths to spare over last week’s easy C&D winner Indy’s Angel when the pair met on the same terms at Southwell a month ago and ought to fare better back on Tapeta. Rose Of New Jersey goes on the shortlist after a solid effort at Thirsk a fortnight ago, but EMPOWERED QUEEN should be capable of more now she’s handicapping at an ordinary level.

18:30 ALREET CHA

Brividi is the one to monitor in the market, having been off for eight months since her debut over further. Otherwise it’s unlikely ALREET CHA, who ran well over C&D a couple of times early in the year, will be found a better opening.

19:00 SECOND NAME

Easy to back when winning impressively on her heavy-ground debut, Minnie Wildes has potential, as does Thelma’s Angel back from five months off. Both are being asked to concede weight to the well-related SECOND NAME, however, and the Varian debutant, James Doyle’s only ride on the card, may well be up to the job.

19:30 COURT DRIVE

The return to the AW will suit Blue Force, while Indivar (second choice) won’t mind the drop back to sprinting. She’sashambles, who’s in form and boasts a consistent profile on Tapeta, should go well too, but COURT DRIVE hasn’t had much luck since handicapping, including over 5f here last time, and is preferred.

20:00 JOSHUA R

It would have been hard to get away from recent course winner Missmimi had this been over 6f, but she’s only tried this trip once and started the season running over 1m. The lightly raced Turn And Burn is capable of better if getting away on terms and settling but dual C&D winner JOSHUA R has often gone well fresh and is fairly treated back from a layoff.

20:30 THE COOKSTOWN CAFU (NAP)

Being the type who should have more to offer on AW for his new yard, THE COOKSTOWN CAFU (NAP) is taken to complete a C&D double. Patontheback, who ties in with the selection, is second choice. Streak Lightning, Showtime Mahomes and Admiral Nelson can also be viewed positively.
