13:15 Newmarket – Magic Love (NAP)
There has been plenty of rain this week and we could see a few non-runners. I’m not convinced Ghost Run will handle it and Naina could surprise a few at a price. She’s up in trip and class and could have an each-way chance at a price. Magic Love looks a live contender and was well backed on her nursery debut when winning last time. Soft ground should suit as should the step up to 7f.
13:30 Haydock – Skipper
I’d give Earls have a chance on the ground but the one I really like is Skipper who won a maiden last time at Chelmsford. He has only raced twice on turf but is bred to relish soft ground. He should improve a chunk on it.
13:50 Newmarket – Law Of Design
I’ve put up Wimbledon Hawkeye a couple of times but I’d worry about his ability to handle soft ground. Law Of Design has a fair pedigree and won last time with a bit in hand on good to soft ground. The form of that novice has worked out well and while this is a big step up in class, the step up in trip to a mile should suit. A small stake on Law Of Design.
14:25 Newmarket – Rayevka
The unbeaten Babouche has to prove she handles the softer ground. I’m not saying she won’t but she hasn’t raced on it yet. The same applies to the other unbeaten filly in the line-up Lake Victoria who is dropping back in trip to 6f for the first time in the Cheveley Park Stakes. That’s a little bit of a concern too. Magic Mild can out-run her odds as she’s guaranteed to handle the soft ground. The French challenger Rayevka is possibly the value against the pair as she won a soft-ground maiden by five lengths last time at Chantilly over 5f but was only beaten a neck on her debut over this 6f trip.
14:35 Curragh – Trinity College
A couple of Ballydoyle runners in this five-runner field could hold the key. Both the unbeaten Lambourn and and my fancy Trinity College wear blinkers but Trinity College did win in them at Galway last time. He’s well-bred and looks to have more improvement to come.
15:00 Newmarket – Whistlejacket
Whistlejacket definitely handles the ground – having won three times from three starts with soft in the going description. He’s the highest rated in the field on 115, so when you get the best horse in the field who handles the ground conditions you’ve always something to work with.
15:15 Haydock – Changeofmind
Declan Carroll has had a poor season but Changeofmind can bring some relief. His last six runners have been closer to the places than not so there’s a return to form in the offering. This four-year-old’s best from has come on soft ground which he will get here.
15:40 Newmarket – Waiting All Night (each-way)
I can’t have Thissongisforyou at the prices and the fact he has a ‘middle’ draw in stall 17 for this 35 runner cavalry charge doesn’t fill me with confidence either. I’m going to put up Waiting All Night (each-way) who is the rank outsider but that doesn’t bother me in a race like the Cambridgeshire. He hasn’t tried the 9f trip or run on ground this soft – but I think he needs both. He’s won a couple of decent handicaps this season already and he gets in off a mark of 86 so he’s at the foot of the weights. There could be more to come and I’m happy to play at the prices.
