13:15 Newmarket – Magic Love

Magic Love went up north and managed to get the job done from a very lowly opening mark of just 65. She looks as if she’s going to appreciate a good bit of dig in the ground and this is going to be a real test. Being at the bottom of the weights is a bonus.

13:30 Haydock – Earls

Earls has won at this venue over 220 yards shorter but he has got a bit of form over this 1m trip as well. He’s only a couple of lbs now and got no luck whatsoever back home at Galway last time. Granted a clear passage, he would’ve finished much closer.

13:50 Newmarket – Royal Playwright

I’ll give Royal Playwright the opportunity to redeem himself as he looked super on his racecourse debut at Salisbury and was slightly disappointing up the hill at Sandown last time. Hopefully they change the tactics and drop him in behind horses, to give him the opportunity to settle early on. He looks like a mudlark.

14:25 Newmarket – Daylight

Daylight was arguably unlucky when chasing home Whistlejacket in France last time. That form brings in Babouche, who beat Whistlejacket, but that was under much quicker conditions which aren’t ideal for him. This is a completely different test on heavy ground and is going to suit the French raider.

14:35 Curragh – Windlord

Andrew Balding may well have played a blinder by entering the Juddmonte runner Windlord in this race. The home team – apart from Hotazhell – don’t look up to their usual standard. He had been showing plenty prior to putting the pieces together with a wide-margin success at York. Let’s hope he’s on track for another big display.

15:00 Newmarket – Whistlejacket

These are Whistlejacket’s favoured conditions and the busy campaign shows no signs of slowing him down whatsoever. He can continue the O’Brien’s Group 1 dominance.

15:15 Haydock – Wiltshire

Wiltshire has only run for the classy William Haggas outfit three times. He’s won twice and his defeat was under much quicker conditions so he will be kept away from fast ground in the future. He will be held up and played late and although he carries top weight, he looks like he is the class angle in here. He can continue his climb up through the grades.

15:40 Newmarket – Roi De France & Silent Film (each-way)

I like Roi De France and Silent Film, which is one on either side of the draw and both at opposite ends of the market. The former is a Gosden runner who was arguably unlucky when he ran at Yarmouth last time and has been only given a gentle nudge by the assessor. He’s a low-mileage improver who could make a mockery of a mark of 95.

Silent Film has been in some solid handicap company throughout the season despite not quite getting the rub of the green. We have an excellent jockey in James Doyle booked too. He looks on a reasonable mark and he may well just improve a pinch for these deep conditions. He stays well and will be played late.
