A field mostly made up of newcomers and the betting will likely prove a good guide. Charlie Appleby’s NAVAL COMMAND ticks plenty of boxes and is seemingly the choice of William Buick from the stable’s pair, so earns the vote. Present Times and Devil’s Advocate are two other blue bloods to keep an eye on, while Seacruiser showed promise in fifth on his Goodwood debut, and can put that experience to good use.

George Boughey’s CELEBORN acquitted himself well on slow ground at Salisbury this month and remains with potential. He made a winning debut at Leicester in June, before returning from three months off, to finish a good third behind easy winner Square d’Alboni in a good novice last time so the top weight gets the nod in this nursery. Olympus Point, placed in all three of his novices, and Chepstow maiden winner Louie The Legend are feared most.
14:45 – Executive Decision
EXECUTIVE DECISION shaped well when making the frame on her last two starts for Jamie Osborne, having to make ground away from the principals at Ascot when fourth to progressive three-year-old Jarraaf on her last outing. She can strike from 3 lb below her last winning mark. Funny Story isn’t taken lightly as she makes her first handicap start of the season, with Dance And Romance also considered after going close at Goodwood two starts ago.
15:20 – Monumental
MONUMENTAL has improved a chunk with each of his four runs to date, so rates a confident choice to go one better than his recent fine second in Doncaster’s Champagne Stakes, when beaten half a length by Bay City Roller. Charlie Appleby’s consistent Symbol of Honour, who was runner-up at Doncaster, in a listed race, appeals as the one to chase home Aidan O’Brien’s son of Kingman ahead of The Waco Kid, who was just behind Symbol of Honour last time, and Huscal.
15:55 – Al Nayyir
Having developed into a smart stayer in France, AL NAYYIR was just about better than ever on his first start for Tom Clover when making Vauban pull out all the stops in the Lonsdale Cup at York last month and a reproduction of that will see him hard to beat in listed company. Harbour Wind must concede weight all round, but he’s a likeable type with an excellent strike rate, while Ballydoyle three-year-old Fighter is the unknown quantity in the race going up in trip.
16:30 – Baltic
BALTIC stretched his unbeaten record in handicaps to five at Newcastle a couple of months ago, beating Tryfan a neck and, with his level of ability yet to be ascertained, Harry Charlton’s progressive colt is fancied to go again at the expense of Candyman Stan, who completed a simple task in a Lingfield maiden this month and can kick on now handicapping for Andrew Balding. Fighter Command, gelded since his last run, can edge out Macari for minor honours.
17:05 – Classic Encounter
CLASSIC ENCOUNTER shaped well after nine months off in fifth in a Newcastle novice earlier this month, on his first start for George Boughey, having been caught further back than ideal. Now handicapping from what could be a lenient mark, he earns the vote, ahead of Mick Appleby’s Terries Royale who shaped best as runner-up at Doncaster 11 days ago. Amsterdam and Pressure’s On are a pair to consider in an interesting finale.
