13:50 – Secret Handsheikh

SECRET HANDSHEIKH added to an excellent Brighton record with an authoritative success nine days ago, scoring for the fourth time at the track and doing so practically unchallenged, bagging the lead and running the bulk of his rivals off their feet before halfway.

A 5 lb penalty is unlikely to be enough to stop him if in the same form, so he’s preferred to Soul Seeker and Media Guest, who both arrive on the back of encouraging displays.

14:20 – Wild Nature

WILD NATURE and Prince of The Seas found just one too good on their respective debuts in recent weeks and they look the pair worth focusing on here.

The former arguably showed more behind a smart prospect, while the third has come out and won since to boost the form, so he is taken to come out on top now for Charlie Appleby.

Another interesting contender is Sword of Wessex, who shaped as if in need of the experience first time up at Newbury last month.

14:50 – Rock Doro

ROCK DORO produced a highly promising debut effort when chasing home subsequent Champagne Stakes winner Bay City Roller at Chelmsford three weeks ago. He was headed only in the final furlong, and with progress anticipated both mentally and physically, he makes obvious appeal now switched to turf.

Cosmic Year has a smashing pedigree and Harry Charlton’s newcomer could well emerge as the chief threat, ahead of fellow debutants Keble Spirit and Quai de Bethune.

15:23 – Cash

This is an open-listed event, and it could be worth chancing CASH to build on his promising reappearance at Windsor last month.

He looked destined for the top when making a winning debut at Newmarket in 2021 and he was beaten only a short head by Westover, who developed into a top-class performer, in the Classic Trial at this course on his second start.

Things haven’t gone according to plan since, but he is a horse with a lot of ability, and returning to a mile on slightly easy ground could bring out the best in him.

Checkandchallenge’s placed effort at York is probably the best form on offer, so he’s a huge threat, along with Beshtani.

15:55 – Fleurir

FLEURIR was an easy winner of a maiden at Pontefract on his final start last season, leaving his reappearance run well behind when runner-up in a handicap at Ffos Las last time.

That came on heavy ground, but the return to a sounder surface should be in his favour, and he remains a horse to be interested in from this sort of mark.

Roger Varian’s filly is preferred to Own Accord, who returned to form when second at Hamilton last month, with Windcrack also considered.

16:25 – Carnival Day

CARNIVAL DAY was much improved on just his second run for Jim Boyle when scoring at Brighton last week, travelling well and readily moving clear in the final furlong, and a 6 lb penalty for that facile victory doesn’t look sufficient to prevent him from following up.

Salamanca Lad comes here on the back of a very good Southwell second, so he should ensure the selection doesn’t have things all his way, while Niloufar, Miaswell and Give It To Me OJ all need factoring in, too.

17:00 – Umbria

UMBRIA left her debut form well behind when opening her account over nine furlongs at Wolverhampton in June.

She shaped particularly well on her handicap debut at Kempton last month, making up a lot of ground from off the pace in a race in which nothing else made any impression and on a day on which it was tough to do so.

That form is also working out very well, so she makes plenty of appeal from a 3 lb higher mark returned to turf.

Rose Branch, who again looked at the top of her form when going close at Carlisle last month, is feared most, ahead of handicap newcomer Guendolen.
