CAPTAIN CORELLI stepped up on his reappearance run to capitalise on a falling mark when scoring by half a length at Beverley last month, and he followed up in good style from a 2 lb higher mark at Thirsk 18 days ago. He was well suited by being held up in a strongly-run race and, though a strong pace doesn’t look likely here, he is clearly thriving and can go close in his hat-trick bid. Copper And Five wasn’t knocked about when finishing behind the selection last time and is feared most.
14:10 – Cape Sovereign
CAPE SOVEREIGN has shown ability in three starts so far, running a career best when finishing third on his qualifying run over 6f at Ripon last month. The winner of that race has gone on again to give the form a boost and he has the speed to cope with this drop to 5f, so he will remain of interest now handicapping from a fair mark. Forager did too much too soon on her nursery debut at Wolverhampton and can be given another chance having looked promising in her three runs prior to that.
14:43 – American Bay
AMERICAN BAY remains a maiden, but he finished out of the first four only twice in eight starts, and was unlucky not to make more of a race of it with the three that finished in front of him in a fairly useful handicap at Newbury last time. He finds himself in a weak novice and is fully expected to open his account. Arabic Song took a step forward as runner-up at Wolverhampton in July and seems likely to pose the main threat.
15:13 – Bright
BRIGHT has been a good purchase for these connections, recording four wins since moving from Harry & Roger Charlton’s yard, and he arrives in top form after winning his last two starts. The drop to 5f didn’t hinder him last time, but he was strong at the finish, and is expected to launch another bold bid back up in trip from just 3 lb higher. Novello Lad and Muscika head the list of dangers.
15:43 – Newyorkstateofmind
NEWYORKSTATEOFMIND returned to form to record his third win of the year at Newcastle a fortnight ago, he produced a lead inside the final furlong and kept on well at the finish. That was from a career-low mark, so he remains well treated from 4 lb higher, and is fancied to launch a bold bid. Street Life and Zuffolo can also make their presence felt.
16:13 – Maris Angel
MARIS ANGEL has made a positive start for this yard, building on the promise of his stable debut in opening her account over 5f at Wolverhampton last week. That was her handicap debut, appreciating the return to the minimum trip, and she’ll remain less exposed than most at this sort of level. Betweenthesticks and Secret Command are feared most.
16:43 – See That Storm
SEE THAT STORM made it two from two for this yard when seeing off the re-opposing pair Highwaygrey and Shimmering Sands at Pontefract last month and, with the promise of better to come from this unexposed three-year-old, he looks capable of defying a 5 lb rise in the weights. Shimmering Sands has since put in another good shift at Beverley and is feared most, while Great Blasket, who has been contesting higher-grade handicaps than this in recent months, also enters calculations.
17:13 – Marmalade Lady
The vote goes to MARMALADE LADY, who pulled a country mile clear of the remainder when chasing home the in-form Three Dons (winner again since) at Ffos Las last month. She is now 1 lb lower and makes plenty of appeal back on likely faster ground. Sonning has dipped to an attractive mark and may emerge as the main threat ahead of Normandy Vista and Bamboo Bay.
